Chapter 349
Madison shouted internally, “System, show yourself right now!”
There was no response. Madison clenched her phone, gritting her teeth together. She barked in her mind, “System, get out here! Now!”
Finally, the system’s flustered voice echoed in her thoughts, “Alright, alright! What’s going on? Has Rebecca caused more trouble?”
Madison’s grip tightened as she stared at the screen. She replied coldly to the system, “Explain this red string and this bronze sword. You owe me an explanation.”
The system, fell silent before replying hesitantly, “Well, uh… You might not believe it, but I’m just as confused as you are. This shouldn’t be happening. Technically, two independent worlds should remain separate, unless, well… Unless someone like you connects them through us.”
Madison’s eyes narrowed as she stared at the photo in her inbox. She asked, “So, what you’re saying is someone with extraordinary power can bypass this?”
The system’s voice was almost nervous. “Haha! That would be impossible unless we’re talking about a literal god. But… that can’t be, right?”
Madison’s gaze hardened. She typed a quick response to Malcolm, “I’m coming over.”
Wanda watched the shift in Madison’s expression, concern clear on her face. “Ms. Locke, is everything alright?”
Madison shook her head at first, but she quickly gave a short nod after that. “There might be a problem. I need to check it out, and I need to go alone.” Yara floated over. “What’s going on? Is it Rebecca again?”
Madison shook her head. Wanda opened her mouth to protest, but Yara nudged her. “Should we notify Harvey? And maybe Sebastian too?”
After a moment of thought, Madison nodded and sent out quick messages to both of them.
Moments later, her phone buzzed with an incoming call from Sebastian. She answered, and his deep voice came through. “Where are you going?”
Madison hesitated. “The address isn’t confirmed yet.”
Sebastian’s voice was steady. “Is it dangerous?”
She shook her head, though he couldn’t see it. “I don’t think so.”
There was a long silence on Sebastian’s end.
Madison walked to the window that looked out over the garden. “You don’t need to worry. I won’t get hurt, and it won’t impact the stability of your astral body.” Sebastian let out a cold laugh. “You really think that’s what I’m concerned about?”
Madison hesitated. “It also won’t interfere with the search for your enemies.”
Sebastian’s tone held a hint of irritation. “Madison, you’re saying all this just to reassure me that our deal won’t be affected?”
She could feel the tension in his voice, and it made her grip her phone tighter. A strange anxiety bloomed in her chest. “I just… don’t want you to worry.”
“Oh, is that so?” he replied in a neutral tone.
Madison fell silent, unsure of what else to say. After a long moment, she finally asked, “Are you angry?”
