Kate felt a sense of pride as she looked at her daughter, who had been raised under her watchful eye. It was a reflection of her success as a mother.
“You’re thoughtful and well–behaved–nothing like that Davina,” Kate remarked coldly. “Since she refuses to come back, let’s pretend she never existed. From now on, the Summers will act as if she doesn’t matter. And you four, listen closely: Stella is your only sister.”
When Kate and Thomas had first brought Davina back into their lives, they did so with a sense of hope, thinking they could bond over their shared bloodline. After all, Davina was their flesh and blood.
However, the Palmers‘ behavior and Davina’s meek, almost apologetic attitude once she reentered the Summers household- along with her actions that disgusted them–gradually caused a widening gap between them and Davina. Over time, their feelings of distaste only grew stronger.
The four brothers exchanged looks, but no one spoke. Despite the silence, they all understood each other perfectly.
They all agreed that Davina had changed after her release from prison.
Even though their encounters with her always ended in conflict, there was something undeniably different about her now.
She no longer carried the weight of someone recently released from prison; instead, she seemed almost radiant.
Though her words were harsh, her insults hit too close to home, forcing the brothers to question themselves in ways they hadn’t before.
As a result, the four brothers now had a far more complicated view of Davina than they once did.
Stella, hearing Kate’s words, smiled inwardly, feeling a sense of satisfaction.
“Mom, you’re the best. I feel so lucky to be part of this family, with you, Dad, and my brothers, Stella said, her eyes welling up with tears of gratitude.
Kate gently patted Stella on the head. “Don’t worry, darling. You’ll always be our precious gem.”
“Alright, let’s not talk about her anymore.”
Thomas waved his hand dismissively, as if brushing off something unpleasant.
“In three days, there’s a banquet hosted by Barlow Group. They’ve invited all the prominent families from across the country. Our family has been invited too, so you all need to take this seriously. I hear this banquet is being held by Ms. Barlow to introduce her daughter to the public–a welcoming dinner for her.”
Blair raised an eyebrow. “Her daughter? I don’t remember ever hearing that Ms. Barlow had a daughter.”
Kate looked just as confused. “Who knows? But I overheard some of the ladies talking while I was out playing cards. They were saying that Ms. Barlow has been talking about her daughter a lot lately–seems like she’s absolutely crazy about her. But no one’s actually seen this daughter.”
Thomas nodded thoughtfully. “Well, for a strong woman like Ms. Barlow, it’s not surprising if she has a child despite being unmarried. Given how much she seems to care about her daughter, you kids should make an effort to get close to them. It’ll benefit both you and the Summers.”
Stella immediately flashed a sweet smile. “Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll make sure to become the best friend to Ms. Barlow’s daughter.”
Thomas nodded approvingly but then, thinking about some recent issues online, added a warning. “Make sure to clear up the negative rumors online and handle things with the film crew. I don’t want us making a fool of ourselves at the banquet”
Blair nodded firmly. “I know. I’ll take care of it right away.”
Lewis adjusted his glasses, his brow furrowing.
