“Those are just your excuses! You’re just taking your frustration out on innocent people!” Simon bellowed, You’re such a coward! We asked you for help because we thought you were still redeemable, but you’re beyond saving!”
Ethan smiled. “To be honest, you’re just afraid of being laughed at when the others learn the truth.
“Ha! You have quite a sharp tongue, but what good is that? You abandoned Seaside City and let Howard roam free!” Simon argued.
Ethan closed his eyes.
Seeing that, Simon grinned. He believed he had won. With Ethan speechless, it seemned he had no other option but to restore balance in Seaside City!
The others also shared the same thought until Ethan suddenly opened his eyes.
“Yeah. You’re right, but you people are shouldering the responsibility this time. You released Howard, lost Dennis, and destroyed Seaside City. Just wait and see what the history books will remember you.”
Ethan’s comment shocked everyone in the meeting room. The meaning of his words was clear: he refused to help restore balance in Seaside City or care about Howard’s escape.
In the end, Simon and the others would be blamed for releasing Howard and losing Dennis, ultimately destroying Seaside City. Since he was locked up, no one would blame him for it.
Everyone in the meeting room was rendered speechless. They could not argue with him because it was the truth. They were the ones who caused the impending destruction of Seaside City.
With a click, the video call ended, and Simon’s hands were shaking. Ethan’s reply had killed their last hope.
Stephen stood there stunned, unable to comprehend what just happened. He never would have thought Ethan would hang up on the video call.
Had they lost? He dared not believe it.
He stared at Ethan in disbelief, watching the man as he casually picked up his book and continued reading, as though the video call never happened.
How could Ethan be so calm after meeting the folks in the federal government? He could
even read!
Stephen realized he could not understand Ethan at all.
Meanwhile, in the meeting room, Simon said angrily, “We’ve underestimated him.”
Chapter 107
He had always been a proud man, but today, Ethan left him speechless. That last statement hit him like a cannon blast, shattering his confidence. He was defenseless in front of Ethan. The others‘ expressions were similarly grim. Ethan had shown them no respect by simply being honest and forcing them to confront the truth they refused to face.
They had gone to Ethan with confidence, believing he would help them, only to return in utter disarray. Neither coercion nor persuasion worked.
“What should we do now?”
Without Ethan’s help, it might take them a while to locate Howard. They must come up with a new plan.
