However, there was nothing George could not say. 

Stephen’s status trumped him. Even if he had complaints, he had to stomach it. If he somehow upset Stephen, the Quinns would surely sanction him, and he would lose more than he bargained for. 

George sighed. He felt like he was digging his own grave. 

“Stephen may be blind, but what about the others in the federal government? Shawn Hill, Eric Morningstar, Brandon North, and now Howard Green? All of them were publicly praised, and now look, they all turned out to have issues! 

“Even if the main problem this time isn’t with Stephen and the federal government, they should share some of the responsibility!” 

Even though Simon came up with a solution of finding a scapegoat, the public was not buying it. 

At the federal government’s office, everyone remained silent. Even with a scapegoat in place, they were still blamed for it. 

They dared not imagine what the reaction would be if the public knew the truth. Maybe it would turn out exactly like what Ethan said that they would be written in history books as the most wicked people, laughed at for generations. 

Simon finally broke the silence. “We just have to focus on what we’re doing now. Just forget about what is going on out there. When the dust settles in Seaside City, people will forget about it.” 

He planned to play dead and let the storm blow over since he had put the blame on a scapegoat. No matter how bad the situation got, they were not to be blamed. 

Meanwhile, back in the villa, George went up to Stephen who was clearly defeated. 

George said, “You’ve actually done really well. You’re much more capable than ninety- nine percent of the people out there. Things went south because you lacked experience. 

“Even Ethan must’ve failed before and probably much worse than you. He just never talked about it. Trust me, and believe in yourself. You’re doing good.” 

Rachel went up to him and put her arms around his, saying, “Yeah, honey, you’re the best. Ethan is nothing compared to you. Don’t let a little setback get to you. Maybe this is what you have to go through to become great. Once you get through this, everything will go smoothly.” 

Stephen’s eyes lit up at their comments.
