“Mr. Rivers was arrested for embezzlement and bribery? And we’re all part of his harem?”
“Don’t slander us!”
“Mr. Rivers would never do such a thing!”
“Besides, our relationship with him is completely innocent!”
A cold smile spread across Stephen’s face.
“Sounds convincing, but let me ask you something. If you have nothing to do with him, why did he spend a billion dollars to buy you guys homes? Why does he spend every holiday here with you instead of going home? Why does he send you money regularly? Well? Answer me!”
He sneered. “Can’t answer, can you?”
He had come prepared, and his demand for an answer was echoed like thunder, startling the officials behind him.
Some governors even clapped and cheered. “How intimidating!”
“Good, good! That tough attitude is exactly what you need!”
“I thought he might go easy because they’re women, but that’s a good attitude.”
They were all pleased with Stephen’s performance. Even George could not help but smile with pride. That was his future son–in–law. How could his judgment be wrong?
However, the women showed no fear. Instead, they stared at Stephen with their cold, piercing eyes.
“You want to know why? Fine! We’ll give you your answer right now!”
Felicia was the first to turn and run back into her home. The others, realizing what she was doing, quickly rushed into their homes as well.
The onlookers were confused. The women said they would give them an answer, yet why did they run off instead?
Sensing something was off, Stephen shouted, “Prepare for defense. They’re planning to attack us! Get ready to subdue them. Use force if necessary!”
Everyone snapped to attention, tension rising as they braced for whatever was coming.
In no time, Felicia came out. She emerged alone not with a weapon in hand but a framed. photograph. It was a black–and–white photo of a man in uniform!
“My husband, Eric Ford, sacrificed his life in a peacekeeping mission at the border when he
