Chapter 196
Inside the building, Stephen was trembling with fear.
The crowd today was even larger than before, and this time, it was not just a protest–eight people had died!
Everyone in Aqua City wanted an explanation. They wanted justice.
“Get the hell out!”
“We did nothing to you. Why did you come here to hurt us?”
“You murderer! You killed an entire family. May your family suffer just like ours!”
The staff had closed the door. They huddled in the corners, pale and shaking, unsure of what to do.
Soon, the security guards arrived, trying to stop the crowd from being reckless and doing something foolish. However, this time was different.
Previously, the people might have shown some courtesy, but today, people had died, and who knew who might be next tomorrow?
From the crowd, someone shouted the security guard’s name, “If you don’t get out of here now, you’re no longer my son!”
Most security guards were locals, so they were caught in a difficult position.
“Why do we even care about them? Let’s just rush in and drag Stephen out for
questioning.”
“He ruined North Hill City, Seaside City, and now Aqua City too? He’s got to be some kind of foreign agent!”
“Catch him and interrogate him!”
The crowd’s fury reached a boiling point as people started throwing all sorts of stuff at the windows. In no time, all the windows were shattered.
Stephen was frozen with fear. He saw the rage on those people’s faces. It was as if they had a personal vendetta against him!
“What should we do?” He was so terrified he could barely think.
Adam was also panicking. “I don’t know.”
Despite being the mayor for several years, he had never seen anything like that.
“Can you go out and talk to them?” Stephen said nervously, “Just promise them we will pay. Then, symbolically pay a few families. It should calm things down a bit, and I’ll bring

in reinforcements to suppress them later.”
Adam asked, “Will it work? They are citizens of Aqua City, not some foreigners. If you don’t address the root problem, how are you planning to suppress them? Do you really see them as enemies?”
Stephen was stunned. He had never thought about that question.
If the protestors were all locals, he had no way to suppress them–unless he was truly ready to give up on Aqua City.
“Well, if we’re not going to suppress them, you should at least go out and talk to them nicely. You’re the mayor, so they’ll listen to you. I can’t go out. I feel like they want to eat me alive.”
Adam sighed in frustration. The situation was getting out of hand, and he needed to intervene quickly before the crowd grew too large and things got even messier. As such, he stepped outside, his heart racing.
As soon as he opened the door…
“Splat!”
Eggs and vegetables were hurled at him.
For a moment, Adam stood there, dumbfounded.
Fortunately, someone recognized him and quickly shouted, “It’s the mayor! Stop!”
Many in the crowd were ready to launch frozen fish at him. Those fish had been kept in a freezer for two weeks, frozen solid, capable of smashing through stones. If they hit a human, the impact would be just as brutal.
Upon hearing it was the mayor, they held back from throwing the fish.
“Everyone!” Adam shouted, wiping off the egg and vegetable on his face. “I…”
“Get out of the way!”
