Chapter 36
“I’ll do an excellent job!” Eric declared, thumping his chest. “Rest assured, Governor Lowe. If I can’t solve this case in three days, I’ll offer you my head!”
After the call ended, George was in a good mood. Individuals so committed were rare. It was all Ethan’s fault for being short–sighted and suppressing such talent,
What kind of trash were the previous commander and deputy commander for resigning when North Hill City needed them most?
“But it’s good they left. If they had stayed, they would only have made North Hill City worse,” George thought out loud.
Meanwhile, Eric hung up the phone and prepared to take action. He already had some suspicions about who would have brought people in illegally.
From his previous experiences working with the commander and deputy commander, he was familiar with the various forces in North Hill City.
“It’s highly likely that Lytton was involved in bringing these people in. If I investigate Lytton, I can wrap up this case in less than half a day.”
He remembered how respectful the people of Lytton had been whenever he visited with the previous commanders. The people had treated them like VIPs, offering tea and refreshments, and were incredibly polite. It was as if the police–were the town’s mayor!
Eric quickly led a team to Lytton, but to his surprise, the usually bustling town was eerily quiet during his visit…
It was a special day that would determine Lytton’s future, so Brandon had told everyone to stay home and wait. Only a few people were guarding the town entrance, and Sky was among them.
Seeing Eric arrive, Sky immediately went to greet him. He glanced around, noticing only Eric and a few unfamiliar faces but not the previous commander and deputy commander.
A thought flashed through his mind. Their absence made it even more likely that Ethan had fallen.
“Why are you the only one here today?” Sky asked deliberately. “Where are Commander Lee and Deputy Armstrong?”
Eric’s eyebrows twitched with displeasure. Did those idiots from Lytton think he was inferior to his predecessors?
“Hmph!” He snorted coldly. “They’ve resigned, and I’m the commander now.”
Sky’s eyes lit up when he heard those men had resigned. Did that not confirm that Ethan

had been arrested? However, a mental note held him back from rushing the conclusion.
He needed to probe further. Brandon had specifically instructed him to gather more information and obtain solid evidence.
“Oh?” Sky feigned confusion. “Why did they resign when everything seems fine?”
“It’s because they’ve done something wrong, of course,” Eric said. “Their backer, Ethan Rivers, has been arrested for corruption, and they’ve resigned to avoid investigation.
“So, from now on, you should address me as commander. I’m the only real commander now!”
Sky’s hands trembled with excitement.
Before, Ethan’s downfall had only been mere speculation, but Eric had now personally confirmed Ethan’s arrest! It was as good as an official announcement!
