The Guardian's Return (Ethan Rivers) novel Chapter 475

“Huh? This criminal is living in a mansion?” Austin frowned.

He went closer and noticed the gate was wide open.

“They don’t even have anyone guarding the place? Aren’t they worried he might escape?”

Austin entered the mansion and immediately saw two people in the living room. One of them was young and handsome, sitting on the couch, and the other was a middle-aged man, standing respectfully opposite the young man.

The middle-aged man was Liam, the chief of police.

Ethan had called him over yesterday to arrest Rory, and today, Liam was back to finish up some paperwork. Catching Rory had been a major achievement.

Hearing footsteps, Liam turned around and spotted Austin. Not recognizing him, Liam assumed he was a friend of Ethan’s and quickly wrapped up his notes.

“That will be all. I’ll be on my way,” Liam said, gathering his things to leave.

Rory was sentenced to death already, but Liam wanted to interrogate him more, hoping to get more information.

Austin watched as Liam left before he switched his attention back to Ethan on the couch.

“You’re Ethan Rivers?”

He had heard of Ethan from rumors on the internet, and that would be his first time meeting the man in person.

“In the flesh.” Ethan nodded.

Austin went up and took a seat opposite Ethan. He then pulled out a business card and handed it to Ethan.

“I’m a psychologist.”

Ethan glanced at the card, noting the name.

“This is the countryside, not the city. Are you lost?” Ethan joked.

Ethan took his phone back. “Now do you understand? She’s just like Stephen. Everything they’re going through right now—they brought it upon themselves. Do you really think Stephen has recovered?

“You tricked him with lies, thinking it would cure him, but once the lies are exposed, have you considered how much damage it will do to him?”

Austin’s heart started to race. He did not know how Ethan found out that he had used lies to cure Stephen.

A wave of unease settled over him as he stammered, “What do you want?”

Ethan said, “I want to tell you two things. First, I know where Snow is, but she has given up on Stephen. Second, Jeremy is still alive and disappointed in Stephen.”

Blood drained from Austin’s face.

Stephen’s recent recovery was built on the belief that the real Snow still supported him and the determination not to let Jeremy down. If Snow said to his face that she no longer loved him, or Jeremy said he was disappointed, what would it do to Stephen? It would kill him!

“You can’t!” Auston bolted up immediately, his body shaking. “He can’t take it!”
