The Guardian's Return (Ethan Rivers) novel Chapter 496

The next second...

Boom!

There was a loud explosion.

Jared’s tank was hit by a shell, causing it to shake violently.

Arnold and the second team captain quickly turned and saw two more tanks slowly emerging from the darkness.

Boom!

One of the tanks fired again, hitting Jared’s tank dead-on. After taking two shots, the tank was completely incapacitated.

“Charge!”

A squad rushed out from behind the tank. At the same time, Arnold saw the villagers from before leading a group of unfamiliar men and rushing into the battlefield. He widened his eyes. “Are they here to help us?”

He had just been prepared to die under the tank fire, but two tanks suddenly saved his life, and a surge of people came as reinforcements.

“Why?” Arnold and the other team captain’s eyes widened in disbelief. They had never met the mysterious team driving the tanks before. Why were they helping?

Furthermore, the villagers had only met Arnold once. They did not even know his name, but they were risking their lives to help him.

With the tank destroyed, Jared’s team descended into chaos and was easily subdued. The battle ended swiftly.

One of the teams approached and saluted Arnold and the second team captain.

Arnold returned the salute. “Which unit are you from?”

The person responded, “We’re the South Regent’s troops. We received a message from the villagers here informing us that you were Ethan Rivers’ men, so we came as backup.”

Arnold and the second team leader exchanged a look, their expressions filled with shock. The South Regent sent a team as reinforcements because he heard that they were with Ethan?

They had never met Ethan before, but they knew all about his deeds. He had defeated all the forces on this side of the border and wiped out several ruthless organizations that had suppressed them like mountains.

Furthermore, he brought peace to Riveria in just a short amount of time. Riveria used to do only marginally better than them before, but in just three years, it transformed into a completely different world.

For as long as they could remember, they had lived in this harsh and unforgiving place. They had to start helping their families from the moment they learned to walk.

They had never gone to school and could not even read. They had to shine eight pairs of shoes just to afford a grimy slice of bread. If there was no business, they had to wait. If no one came, they went hungry.

They were best at waiting patiently. Ethan was like a beacon of light, giving them hope for the future.

Arnold looked at their sincere and devoted expressions and felt stunned. It was his first time seeing such expressions. The moment he lifted his head, he seemed to see a figure standing under the distant streetlight.

Ethan!

However, when he blinked again, Ethan was gone.
