"Who are you?" Charles asked nervously.
Finding a stranger in his home, he suspected a burglar had intruded. However, based on how calmly the man was sitting on the sofa, it seemed like the man had been waiting.
Charles quickly introduced himself, "I'm Stephen Quinn's assistant. What do you want here?"
Ethan looked at him and smiled faintly. "I'm Ethan Rivers."
Charles felt a shiver down his spine.
"You're Ethan Rivers?"
Just moments ago, he had been talking about Ethan, saying if he ever got the chance to meet him, he would handle him for Stephen’s sake. Now, before him, in his house, was Ethan.
Charles then recalled what Nolan had said about people across Riveria owing Ethan favors and that someone might come home to find Ethan waiting for them.
He thought long and hard. He had never met Ethan before, much less owed him any favors. Since he did not owe Ethan anything, it meant he did not have to be afraid of Ethan!
Realizing that, Charles sneered, "So you're Ethan Rivers. I heard you’re supposed to be in prison. Did you break out? Should I call the police on you right now?"
Ethan replied calmly, "You could, but they wouldn't be much help."
Charles scoffed, "They wouldn't help? Do you think you're someone important? You're just a criminal whom everyone wants locked up! People like you should be executed."
After that, he took out his phone. "Enough talking. I'm calling them right now!"
However, just as he dialed the number and before he could make the call, a middle-aged man walked in.
Charles instinctively looked at the man and froze when he saw who it was. He recognized him. The man was none other than the Director of Hill City’s Security Bureau, Justin Thames!
"No." Justin looked at Charles helplessly. "You've been deceived. Mr. Rivers was never a criminal. He was the one managing Riveria three years ago, the one who gave Riveria its chance at peace and development. He's also the Grand Marshal's only true successor."
Charles' eyes widened in shock. Justin did not speak much, but the weight of the information was overwhelming. It would take time for Charles to process it.
Before Stephen came, Ethan was the one managing Riveria? Ethan had raised Riveria's GDP to 15 trillion dollars? He was the Grand Marshal's only successor?
The truth made Charles dizzy, and he struggled to accept that.
"Are you lying to me?"
Ethan said calmly, "There’s no need to explain it to him. Did you bring what I asked for?"
