Chapter 72
Still, Stephen stayed cautious.
He took Danny out to eat and asked him to order, hoping to observe his dining habits. Would Danny go for the expensive cuts or something else?
Danny asked, “What would you like to eat, sir?”
“Just order what you like.” Stephen grinned, not noticing Danny’s trembling hands while the latter looked at the menu.
Moments later, Danny ordered the food.
“We’ll have the salad and…” Danny glanced at Stephen before gritting his teeth. “And salmon, please.”
An appetizer and a main course for each of them should be enough.
Danny put down the menu and asked, “Is that enough for you, sir?”
Stephen smiled happily, “Yes, it is. You have the qualities to be the next mayor of North Hill City.”
Dumbstruck, Danny asked in surprise, “Are you serious?”
Stephen nodded. “Yes, I’m dead serious.”
The salad and salmon were one of the cheapest on the menu, and Danny’s thrifty lifestyle impressed Stephen.
After the meal, Stephen took Danny to run through the procedure, formally appointing the man as the new mayor of North Hill City. The sudden appointment shocked Danny’s colleagues and worried his wife.
Stephen stayed another day in North Hill City before flying off. Since a new mayor had been elected, he did not want to waste any more time on the city.
His priority was to develop other cities and make up for the shortfall in GDP. For all he cared, North Hill City could keep up the way it was. Any issue could wait until Stephen made it into cabinet and appointed someone new to run Riveria.
Danny saw Stephen off before clenching his fists emotionally, feeling overjoyed.
However, he came home to his wife, Carrie Brooks, looking worried and asking, “Why did you become the mayor of North Hill City?
“Don’t you know the situation with North Hill City? There aren’t any jobs for anyone. The price has gone up for everything. We need to be extra vigilant just to take the kids to school since accidents can happen-”

Danny cut her off. “I know. I know the state of the city more than anyone else, but I also know why Stephen chose me to be the mayor.”
He let out a smile.
“He must think I’m honest and wants me to cover his ass.”
Carrie’s eyes widened. “Why did you agree to be mayor
then?”
“It all boils down to money.” Danny’s eyes flickered with ambition.
He knew his chance had come during the city riot. Since Shawn would be replaced after his major screw–up, Danny had been getting himself ready to be the next mayor.
