Half a day later, Simon received the materials and immediately called for a meeting.
Everyone was puzzled as to Simon’s sudden and urgent gathering.
“What’s going on? What’s the rush?”
“Has something happened in North Hill City again?”
“I hope not. We handpicked the new mayor ourselves this time. Surely there won’t be any more problems?”
They had been frightened by the string of incidents that unfolded in North Hill City. As such, the new mayor they appointed had been sent directly from the capital.
He had no connections to the local people, and the federal government knew his background inside out. They were certain that there would not be any issues.
“It’s not about North Hill City,” Simon said. “It’s about Ethan Rivers.”
“Ethan? What’s he gone and done now?”
“Is he unsatisfied with the villa we gave
him?”
“Giving him a villa was our biggest concession. He should curb his greed.”
They all assumed Ethan was trying to ask for more benefits.
“That’s not it either,” Simon said. “I’ve gathered all of you to talk about a criminal who has committed all sorts of evil acts. Turns out, he was one of Ethan’s subordinates.”
“What?”
Everyone was dumbfounded. Ethan had a criminal working for him? What did Simon mean by that? Harboring a criminal was against the law!
Simon slammed the evidence on the table. “Here’s the proof.”
Everyone rushed to examine the documents. The more they read, the grimmer their expressions became.
“Forming gangs, inciting riots, vandalizing shops…”
Each charge filled them with anger.
“This kind of person deserves to be executed ten times over.
“Ethan didn’t just hire this criminal, he financed him and helped him start a company. What was going through his mind?”
“This is utter lawlessness!”

Everyone was livid. They wanted to confront Ethan right away.
Noticing his colleagues‘ reactions, the corners of Simon’s lips curled into a triumphant smile.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we now have concrete evidence that Ethan has been grooming criminals. We must take action against him.”
Someone looked up at Simon, confused. “I understand we need to act, but what can we do? He’s still in prison.”
“Are we going to sentence him to death?”
Simon shook his head. “We can start by making this public and stripping Ethan of his hero status. Once we do that, people will support whatever we do to him in the future!”
Many nodded in agreement.
“Yes, we need to take away his hero status.
They could not allow Ethan to keep that title. After all, he had only received it because they had wrongly convicted him.
As long as Ethan held that title, it would be a reminder of their mistake.
“We must prove that we were right all along.”
“Exactly. Once we take away his status, our past mistakes will be erased too.”
“Let’s do it. Publish the truth and strip him of his hero status!”
They decided on Ethan’s charges during the meeting, and everyone praised Stephen highly for catching Howard.
