Yvette was so furious that she collapsed onto the couch.

Charlene rushed forward to support her. "Grandma, are you okay?"

Suddenly Yvette slapped Charlene across the face. "You useless thing! Why didn't you realize Hector had called Marcus and Natalie?"

Charlene clutched her cheek, not daring to say a word.

"Why did you hit her?" Elijah stepped forward and pulled Charlene away. "Being the granddaughter of a twisted old hag like you must've been rough on her!"

Charlene's face was red and swollen. She bit her lip and stayed silent.

"Your grandmother is old and twisted, you should stay away from her. You're only 18. Do you plan to let her brainwash you for the rest of your life?

"Listen, you're 18 now. You're an adult. You can think for yourself and not be a puppet on someone else's string!"

In a firm and sincere tone, Elijah continued, "The people you surround yourself with will shape who you become. It's hard to stay good, but it's really easy to go bad. You wouldn't want to turn into a twisted person at such a young age, right?"

Charlene just remained silent.

"Shut up, you wretched man! Shut up!" Yvette yelled at Elijah. "You're certainly Adam's son. You're—"

"You old hag, you can insult me all you want, but don't you dare talk about my dad! I'll tear your mouth apart!"

Elijah rolled up his sleeves and stepped forward to drag Yvette toward him. He reached for her mouth. "You twisted woman, let's see you talk now! How dare you insult my father!

"If it weren't for you, my parents wouldn't have divorced. My brother and I wouldn't have grown up without our parents! I swear I'll teach you a lesson today!"

"Don't hit my grandma!" Charlene snapped out of her shock and lunged forward, grabbing Elijah's arm. "Please, I beg you. Don't hit her! She's old, and she has cancer. She doesn't have much time left."

Tears streamed down Charlene's cheeks. "Please, let her go."

"Stop begging!" Yvette pushed Charlene away. "Let him continue. If he kills me, I'll drag him to hell with me."

"Elijah," Marcus said coldly. Hearing that, Elijah immediately let go of Yvette.

Marcus stepped forward and glared coldly at Yvette. "Your story doesn't match with what my grandpa told me. I'll have you meet him face-to-face. The two of you can talk it out. One of you is lying."

Yvette's back ached after being shoved by Elijah, but Marcus showed no sympathy. If anything, he would've done it himself.

What had Natalie done to deserve this? The Walkers had merely chosen to stay out of the conflict and not help Yvette.

Yet, she sent Natalie to the Langleys and allowed them to torment her so cruelly.

If Natalie hadn't met Federrick, Marcus couldn't imagine what she would've turned into after all the suffering she endured under the Langleys.

"Fine, I'll meet him." Yvette sat up straight and returned to her arrogant self. "Do you think I'm afraid of Charles?"

"Well then, Mrs. Jenkins Senior, after you," Marcus said, his voice deep and icy. His gaze toward Yvette was enough to send chills down someone's spine.

The story he had heard from Charles was completely different from Yvette's version.

All these years, Charles had told Marcus that he and his grandmother loved each other deeply. Marcus couldn't believe that a woman of such grace and dignity would've fallen for a man who two-timed her.

One of them must've been lying.

But judging by Yvette's reaction, it didn't seem fake either.
