The Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28 My Future Wife

Through the mirror, Raylee caught sight of two familiar faces

One of the individuals was Waverly, and the other person was Shanice Sutherland, Casimir’s sister, who was also her former

sisterinlaw.

Enemies often crous paths, huh? When it rains, it pours! Raylee, who was already socially anxious, just had to bump into those two individuals

Waverly was no pushover, and Shanice was not someone to be trifled with.

In the past, Raylee was known for her arrogance and complexity. She had quite the temper fitting of a prominent young lady

Shanice was even more uncivilized. She was domineering, insolent, and arrogant.

The two of them were utterly incompatible. They couldn’t stand each other, and any disagreement would quickly escalate into verbal and physical fights.

Back then, caught in the middle, Casimir was in a predicament. Though it was a headache, he didn’t have any particular feelings for Kaylee, his fiancée. Therefore, he was, more often than not, biased toward Shanice.

For Samuel, his greatest concern back then was not the potential conflict Kaylee might face with her motherinlaw after marrying into the Sutherland family but rather the potential discord with her sisterinlaw.

Raylee hadn’t anticipated how well Waverly would get along with Shanice, especially after becoming Casimir’s fiancée.

Hand in hand, they were as close as best friends.

Appeasing Shanice wasn’t an easy task. It seemed that Waverly had to put in quite a bit of effort.

One would expect sparks to fly whenever enemies were to cross paths.

However, Kaylee had completely lost her former bravado.

She cast a glance at the two individuals before shifting her gaze away. She then greeted them in a nonchalant tone, Long

time no see.

Waverly walked over like an old friend, linking arms with Raylee, and cheerfully said, Raylee, am I seeing things correctly? You’ve actually dressed up to attend the charity dinner! That’s fantastic. You’re finally starting to blend into a normal life. Dad, Mom, and Samuel would be absolutely thrilled to hear this!

Raylee subtly withdrew her arm, her expression cool as she said, I’m heading out first.

Once she finished speaking, she then stepped out of the restroom.

Her tone and actions were laced with an aloofness that warned others to keep their distance.

However, when she reached the hallway to the restroom, Shanice and Waverly followed her out and blocked her way.

Raylee was at a loss for words. Why won’t these two just go away?

Waverly looked like a distressed puppy. Her eyes were red and swollen, and she looked as if she had been greatly wronged.

Annoyed, Raylee said, Please don’t shed tears, lest others see and think I’ve bullied you.

Waverly pursed her lips, tears falling freely as if they cost her nothing, sobbing as she said, Raylee, I don’t know what I did wrong or said wrong that made you dislike me so much! No matter what, please don’t be upset, Raylee. I apologize to you. I’m sorry, Raylee.

Her crying had drawn the attention of others in the restroom.

One was apologizing, tears streaming down due to the sheer injustice of it all, while the other stood there, expressionless.

No matter who it was, they would instinctively feel sympathy for the patiful Waverly.

Finished

Right then, a candid remark almost slipped from Raylee’s lips. Waverly is the perfect example of a pretentious woman! With the Goodridge family, she has a knack for winning their hearts, and what’s more, they always fall for such tricks!

The guests attending the charity banquet that night were essentially the high society of Jexburgh.

After all, the Goodridge family was one of the four great families in Jexburgh, and most people had a recollection of the controversy surrounding the legitimacy of the Goodridge family’s heiress four years prior.

As soon as Shanice spoke, everyone had come to know about Raylee’s identity,

Oh! She’s the fake heiress of the Goodridge family! Why does she look so sickly? Did she purposely put on a sickly makeup?

Oh, my! Haven’t you heard? She was in jail for several years, and she just got out!

Huh? Is she an exconvict? Yet, she actually dares to show up at such a highend banquet!

Listening to the whispers of the people around her, Shanice couldn’t help but chuckle. She then uttered mockingly, Indeed, she’s the same one who, four years ago, was imprisoned for theft, the faux heiress of the Goodridge family!

The insulting words were harsh and unpleasant to hear.

The fear within Raylee amplified a hundredfold as she listened to the surrounding crowd’s dense snickers.

However, she couldn’t back down.

In those four years, she had already endured more than enough abuse in prison.

Now that I have regained my freedom, why should I endure such malicious words? Raylee squinted, her eyes blazing with fury.

The next moment, she raised her hand and delivered a harsh slap across Shanice’s face.

Slap!

The sharp and distinct sound of a slap echoed, leaving Shanice stunned.

Waverly hadn’t anticipated that Raylee would hit someone in public, leaving her momentarily dumbfounded.

You b*tch! How dare you hit me?Shanice clutched her stinging face, her voice seething with fury. You’re an exconvict and a faux heiress! What right do you have to hit me? Are you seeking death?

As she spoke, she raised her hand in retaliation.

Just as her palm was about to strike Raylee’s face, a large hand seized her wrist, forcefully pushing her into a corner of the wall.

Shanice’s body harshly collided with the corner of the wall. The impact was so intense that it felt as if her internal organs were almost dislodged. The pain was so severe that she couldn’t even stand up.

Following that, a voice, both icy and arrogant, rang out.

How dare you mess with my fiancée? You’re the one seeking death!

Shanice looked up, and a towering figure nearly engulfed her entirely. Upon seeing the man’s handsome yet fierce face, she was so frightened that she almost lost her soul.

Jeremiah Lorimer? MMr. Lorimer? WWhat did you say? Raylee? Your fiancée?

She endured the pain, her inner terror so intense it caused her speech to stutter.

Jeremiah looked at her with distaste, a profound mockery lurking in the depths of his eyes as if he were a supercilious king
