Chapter 46 Forget About The Betrothal Gifts
Finished
Samuel continued. “Wavy spent eighteen harsh years at your place. You saw for yourself how thin she was when she returned. If only I had known you were returning for payback. I would’ve left you to rot in jail. It would’ve saved us from the chaos. you’ve caused at home“”
“Alas, I’m back, and your nightmares are just beginning. As long as I’m around, don’t even dream of peace in this household!” A fierce hatred danced in Kaylee’s eyes.
“All right. That’s enough. No more bickering.” Alaric intervened, trying to smooth things over. “Ray–Ray, let the past be the past. Look at the present. Everything is moving in a good direction. You’re about to marry into the Lorimer family Becoming the lady of the Lorimer family isn’t a position anyone can fill. Better days are waiting for you ahead. Don’t let the past slampen your spirits!”
“Better days?” Kaylee scoffed. “You’ve long known about Jeremiah’s affairs abroad, haven’t you? Don’t tell me you’re unclear about the kind of person he is. Who knows what the future will bring, but it won’t be the rosy picture you all paint. Don’t think I’m unaware of your schemes. All you want is to reap the benefits after my marriage alliance with the Lorimer family. Exploiting every last bit of value out of me without regard for my well–being.
Alaric and Harriet were flushed with embarrassment after having their true colors exposed.
But in the next moment, the sly Alaric regained his dignity and exclaimed, “Ray–Ray, how could you think so poorly of me and your mom? What affairs of Jeremiah abroad? We’ve never even heard a whisper about it. However, it’s undeniable he’s an illegitimate child, and his status within the Lorimer family is likely insignificant and overlooked. All these don’t matter. The Goodridge family will always be your strong support. If you’re ever wronged in the future, we will stand up for you!”
Kaylee watched him spout nonsense with a serious expression, and with a mocking smile, she retorted, “You truly have at knack for the art of speech. That’s enough. We’re all wily old foxes. Stop putting up an act. Since you’re planning to use me for your gain, you should treat me well, not disrespect me to my face, It seems you’ve lost sight of who’s calling the shots!”
Samuel fixed her with a displeased glare. “Raylee, is this how you speak to your dad? You willingly marry into the Lorimer family out of your vanity, yet you still claim Mom and Dad don’t care about your well–being? No one can force you if you genuinely don’t want it. I’ll have the betrothal gifts returned right away!”
A thick layer of mockery filled the depths of Raylee’s eyes. “Not marrying? Well, you’d have to check with Mom and Dad. If they say a single ‘no, I won’t accept a penny of the betrothal gift and have Matthew return it immediately.”
Harriet hurriedly persuaded, “All right. That’s enough. Sanuel, leave her alone. This is a good match. You shouldn’t let a moment’s temper ruin a good thing for your sister.”
“Mom, look at how arrogant Kaylee is acting. She hasn’t even married to the Lorimer family, and she’s already acting so high and mighty. Can you imagine what she’ll become if we allow her to marry into that family?” Samuel remarked. somewhat annoyed.
A faint smile graced Raylee’s face, but her tone was chillingly indifferent. “Let me reiterate. My name is Raylee Somers, not Rayler Goodridge, Even if I were to marry into the Lorimer family, I would do so under that natne.”
As those words fell, she turned to face Matthew. “Could you do me a favor and move all the betrothal gifts to Goodridge Manor, my grandina’s place?”
Having observed the drama unfolding before him for quite some time, Matthew had gotten a good look at the Goodridge family’s unsightly behavior. He nodded, responding, “All right, Ms. Somers. I’ll move them now and take the pink diamond with me. Rest assured. I won’t leave anything behind”
Upon hearing his words and seeing the scowls on the Goodridge family’s faces, Raylee couldn’t help but want to laugh. Matthew has a bit of a sense of humor.
Harriet’s expression stiffened slightly. “I don’t want the pink diamond anymore. But Ray–Ray, moving all these betrothal gifts to Goodridge Manor won’t sound too good if word gets out. We should keep some of them here,” she reasoned.
Alaric also chimed in, saying, “Exactly. Who wouldn’t keep the betrothal gifts at home? Don’t worry. I’ll prepare your dowry. but the betrothal gifts must stay”
“I don’t care if you prepare a dowry or not. In any case, forget about getting any of these betrothal gifts from me.” Raylee
