Olive Steele’s parents looked at each other and found compliments in both eyes. As for their views, a wealthy man like Alan Hoyle could be peremptory, but he was able to take the household duties from their daughter willingly and the food he cooked did is delicious, which meant that he was a good husband.
Money was not the only issue for marriage.
Alan was enthusiastic as if he was at his own home, “Bon appetit, everyone!”
Chloe Malan mumbled, “Ass kisser.”
While Olive’s parents did assume Alan was playing up to them at all. For his status and power, there was no need for him to do such things. He loved their daughter which made these things natural.
“You cook a lot, Alan?” The sense of distance was broken a lot when Olive’s father called him Alan.
He smiled to reply, “Kind of. I usually cooked when I was tired of work. It’s both an exercise and enjoyment for me.”
“So, you mean Olive won’t be stuck in the kitchen after the marriage?” Chloe narrowed her eyes slightly.
Almost every ordinary girl married into the rich and powerful family was required to be a housewife, which was a hidden rule.
Back then, she was asked to stay at home to be a housewife as well. That made her useless after the divorce. Without the encouragement and help of her friends, Chloe might never survive that hardship.
She did not want Olive to go through this, too.
“Just eat your food.” Olive kicked her slightly under the table.
“Oh, you little...” Chloe rubbed her forehead, “I’m trying to help!”
“She can always cook if she wants to, but that’s never a woman’s responsibility. ”Alan was still smiling, “And it’s never a taboo for a woman to work hard, too. I mean, Olive’s doing fine in Angel, though I don’t want her to be tired.”
Even Chloe now could not find something in his theory to attack him.
The dinner went much better than lunch.
Annie was looking at the zoo in her plate, hesitating.
“What’s up, sweetheart?” Alan asked her.
“Ah, it’s all your fault,” Annie dropped her chopsticks on the table, “They are all too beautiful to be eaten!”
Putting the chopstick back to her hands, Alan could not help laughing, “It’s okay. Daddy can always cook for you if you like.”
