Chapter 4
We didn’t talk for days.
I took my daughter’s ashes to a field full of blooming jasmine.
Her favorite place in the world.
Now, she’d never have to leave.
When I got back, the house was a mess.
Like it had been ransacked.
Jewelry tossed everywhere.
I checked my phone–dozens of messages from Emily.
She’d sent over $700.
“Cash flow’s tight. Don’t waste it.‘
“I’ve got a business trip coming up. Why didn’t you pack for me like I asked?”
“Where’s my necklace?”
“Where’s our daughter? Don’t let your drama mess with her schooling.”
Message after message.
All of them asking where I was.
Why I wasn’t answering.
We’d been married ten years.
Through all of it, I took care of both her and our daughter.
She told me to do something–I did it. No questions asked.
mins–I did it. No questions

Chapter 4
I never ghosted.
Never disappeared.
That’s why she was freaking out now.
I dropped my suitcase and started picking up the scattered jewelry.
Then I found something wedged between the couch cushions.
A divorce agreement.
Must’ve slipped out of her bag.
So she’d been planning this all along.
Funny thing was… I wasn’t even mad.
For once, we were finally on the same page.
The terms were fair.
Everything split fifty–fifty.
I signed it right then.
Then shot her a quick text: “I’m back.”
Two minutes later, she sent me an address.
I assumed it was the courthouse.
It wasn’t.
It was a fancy restaurant.
Emily met me outside.
First thing she said was a scowl.

The Internet’s Favorite Couple Was My Marriage’s Worst Nightmare
Chapter 4
“Seriously? You couldn’t even clean up for today? This client is huge.”
“They came as a couple. I needed you to match the vibe.”
“Last time was my fault, okay? I drank too much.”
“Just sit down, smile, and don’t say a word.”
For once, she was trying to play nice.
Probably scared I’d blow up and embarrass her in front of her client.
I nodded.
Didn’t want to cause a scene.
Not yet, anyway.
We walked into the private room–Alan was already there.
He took her coat like it was second nature.
They sat together.
I grabbed the last open seat.
Since I’d walked in with Emily, the clients were naturally curious.
The guy sitting across from her smiled.
“Emily, does your company have some kind of looks requirement?”
“Every guy I’ve met from your team is stupid handsome.”
The room went quiet.
All eyes on Emily.
She forced a smile.

The Internet’s favorite Couple Was My Marriages Worst Nightmare
Chapter 4
“You’re too kind, Mr. Johnson. That’s my husband.”
She said it like she had a bad taste in her mouth.
Johnson laughed, clearly surprised.
“Oh! I thought the guy next to you–Alan–was your husband.”
“Last time at the conference, didn’t you two… share a room?”
He caught himself mid–sentence. Tried to backtrack.
“Anyway–sir, you don’t look well. You need a moment to rest?”
Before I could speak, Emily cut in..
“He’s fine. Really, Mr. Johnson, don’t worry about him.”
