Chapter 294 Just an Act
“Fine.” Amanda got up reluctantly to get Rosie the milk.
Upon leaving the bathroom, she got frightened by the man standing outside.
The words left her before she could process them. “Are you out of your mind? Are you peeking at your bathing sister?”
She was well aware that it wasn’t Taylor’s intention. He’s probably worried about his sister, so he came to see whether I was doing my job of taking care of her.
Crossing his arms, Taylor remained rooted to the ground. He scoffed at Amanda, who was visibly scared by his presence. “Here I thought you’re the one bathing. What a killjoy.”
Is he implying that he wants to see me bathe? He’s so shameless!
Amanda decided that talking to him was a waste of time. All she wanted was to make it through the promised ten days. Then, her son could undergo a successful bone marrow transplant. After that, she would never need to cross paths with the Momsey siblings again.
She walked past him and left the bedroom.
Taylor remained standing outside the bathroom. His eyes were fixed on the door as a stern look fell on his face.
After all these years, he had been suspecting that Rosie wasn’t really suffering from a mental disorder. Instead, she was merely putting up a front so she didn’t have to face reality, which was that Elias didn’t return her feelings.
Taylor had been trying to expose Rosie, but she was good at feigning. She never once gave herself away. Therefore, he thought he was just being paranoid.
He wished that Rosie could move on with her life without running away from reality. She deserves a normal life.
He planned to use Amanda against Rosie to test whether the latter’s hysteria was just an act.
At the same time, Amanda returned to the room with a pail of milk, which was prepared by the helper. Just when she was stepping into the bathroom, Taylor began, “You’re good at your job. Must’ve gained the experience from serving Elias, eh? However, he still divorced you. even though you did a great job tending to his needs.”
He glanced at the bathroom door when he talked, hoping Rosie could hear their conversation.
Amanda’s gaze fell on the man who stood before her. What does he want? He’s being ridiculous!
“You’re no different from your mad sister. Why don’t you stay in the sanatorium as well? It might do you good.”
Amanda didn’t bother making small talk. She sidestepped him and walked into the bathroom with the pail. To her surprise, Taylor grabbed her by her arm. “Who does your child resemble? Does your child look like you or Elias?”
The moment the sentence left him, the bathroom door flung open. Behind the door stood Rosic, rage written all over her face. “What are you doing out there? I’m waiting for a bath!”
Rosie had a towel wrapped around her body at the moment.
“Your brother is keeping me from going inside. He sure has a lot to say.” Amanda’s face was. plastered with impatience. She swatted Taylor’s hand away and walked into the bathroom.
Taylor watched his sister. Her behavior cemented his suspicion. Rosie is pretending.
“Taylor! Why are you keeping Maria? I’m taking a bath and will see Eli after that. Go away.”
After that, she shut the door with a thud.
In the bathroom, Amanda poured the milk into the bathtub, but a question was throbbing in
her mind.
I was told Rosie had gone mad. How come she remembers to wrap a towel around herself when she came out earlier? It’s only normal for a patient like her to rush outside without anything on. Is she aware of the concept of shame even after she lost her mind? Does she still care about that?
Rosie’s mood turned sour all of a sudden, and she slapped Amanda for it. “Why are you zoning out when you’re supposed to pour the milk? How dare you disobey me?!”
The slap spoke of her resentment for Amanda.
The gesture took Amanda aback. For a moment, she stood there without a visible reaction. She then raised her head to watch Rosie, who returned her gaze with an angry look and tossed the pail away.
Amanda refused to let Rosie take advantage of her carelessness. She has no right to slap me as she pleases!
Amanda then walked away to open the door and poked her head out of the bathroom. Taylor had left some time ago. There wasn’t anybody in the bedroom.
Behind her, Rosie continued to yell. “Maria, get back here now! I’m asking you to help me bathe. Where do you think you’re going?”
Her words fell on deaf ears. Amanda walked further away to lock the bedroom door. Then, she returned to the bathroom. She stood before Rosie and watched her.
The next moment, she slapped Rosie without holding back her hatred.
The momentum sent Rosie staggered backward, and she fell into the bathtub, water splashing everywhere.
Rosie was shocked to find that Amanda had shoved her into the bathtub. She didn’t that, so she threw a tantrum.
expect
“Eli, help me! Maria is trying to kill me! Help! Mommy! Daddy! Where are you?”
Judging from her response, Amanda was more confident that Rosie was off her rocker.
She walked over to Rosie and pulled her out of the bathtub. Then, she studied the woman’s expression closely. “Rosie, are you perhaps pretending to be sick?”
However, Rosie kept screaming at the top of her lungs. She yelled for help, not paying attention to Amanda’s words.
Her shrill cry was torturing Amanda’s ears. She’s loud!
“Stop it! Stop crying! Aren’t you going to bathe? Later, El-” Amanda didn’t finish her sentence. The nickname stuck on her tongue. No. I won’t give this mad woman another chance to slap me.
At that, she gave Rosie a strained smile. “Come on. You have to bathe. You’re seeing Elias. later, remember? Don’t you want to see him in your most beautiful dress? Behave, then.”
