The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 187

Tom showed him some respect and raised his glass to take a sip before nodding with a smile. "Thank you for remembering me and organizing this welcoming party."

His gaze had remained fixed on Abigail as he spoke. It was clear that those words were meant entirely for her.

No one else in the room mattered to him. What mattered to him was that the woman he liked had attended his welcoming party.

I couldn't fathom why Abigail insisted on me to come. The two people who couldn't stand each other were in the same room. How could that lead to reconciliation?

Besides, I could tell from her demeanor that she had no intention of being the peacemaker between us.

Tom didn't glance in my direction at all. Instead, he glanced at Abigail and said tenderly, "Abigail, this toast is for you! I'm truly touched that you came today. Thank you for still remembering me as an old friend."

Abigail didn't raise her glass. Instead, she glanced at the gift he had casually tossed onto the table and said faintly, "Tom, that tie is a gift I bought for you. I'll return it tomorrow if you don't like it.

"You're free to choose whatever gift you like, I'll pay for it. A gift should be something of your liking. Otherwise, it would mean nothing, wouldn't it?"

I was slightly surprised. I didn't expect her to say that.

Tom's expression unsurprisingly lit up at her words as if he had just uncovered a treasure. He immediately picked up the tie box from the table, treating it as a prized possession and saying solemnly, "I didn't know this was from you!"

He unwrapped the gift on the spot before he held the tie against his outfit and nodded with satisfaction. "Abigail, you've got great taste! I love the color! Don't worry, I'll wear it every day. It'd feel like having you by my side."

His words were a blatant act of disrespect and provocation toward me. I would have punched him right then and there if we were back in college.

Who gave him the right to humiliate me like this?
