Lana's maturity warmed my heart; she was just so strong.
At that moment, Abigail pushed the door open and walked in. Her face was expressionless as she glanced at Lana. When she saw how gently I was gazing at the child, a flicker of emotion seemed to cross her eyes.
"Samuel, come out for a moment. I need to talk to you," she said.
I nodded, told Lana to eat well, then turned and followed Abigail outside.
"Is it something that really needs to be said out here? Can't it be discussed in front of the child?" I asked, irritation creeping into my voice.
Even though Lana was still a child, she could sense who liked her and who didn't.
Abigail had come to see her, yet she still maintained that aloof, distant demeanor. I was starting to regret bringing her here. Didn't she realize that this might affect Lana's mood?
Abigail looked at me calmly and let out a soft laugh. "Samuel, you're good at taking care of kids, aren't you?"
I nodded lightly and replied offhandedly, "Kayla had been weak since childhood. I got used to comforting kids, so I've had plenty of practice."
A trace of guilt flickered across Abigail's face at the mention of Kayla.
She glanced at me briefly, then said softly, "Samuel, I'm sorry about what happened to Kayla."
I forced a faint smile and shook my head. "It's in the past. What's the point of bringing it up now?"
Seeing I had no intention of continuing the conversation, Abigail suddenly said, "Samuel, I'm serious. Let's have a child together."
She didn't wait for my response. She just smiled at me. "When I saw you with Lana just now, I could imagine it. You'd be a great father."
