The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 285

After I spoke, I turned and went back to the guest room. To make sure Abigail didn't follow me, I locked the door behind me.

Outside, I didn't hear her footsteps. I didn't know how long she stood there or when she finally left. Her words earlier felt like an intangible dream.

But the dream had shattered, and it was time to return to reality. Dwelling on the past would only drain me of the strength I needed to move forward.

I couldn't afford to return to that suffocating, endless darkness. I wanted a life of my own. In whatever time I had left, I wished to create good memories for myself.

So I lay on the bed, forcing myself to close my eyes and not think about anything related to Abigail.

That night, I tossed and turned, unable to sleep. I wasn't sure how much time had passed before I finally drifted into a heavy slumber.

The next morning, I woke up pondering how I might avoid encountering Abigail. However, when I finished getting ready and left my room, I discovered she was already gone.

Jane greeted me with a smile and waved me over. "You're up, Mr. Gebb. Come have breakfast."

After sitting at the table, I glanced toward Abigail's room and asked softly, "Where's Abigail?"

Jane set a bowl of oatmeal in front of me and politely replied, "Mrs. Gebb left early this morning. She said she had an urgent meeting, so she'd be gone for a few days. Before she left, she asked me to make sure you eat well and get some nutritious food to help you recover your strength."

Her words left me momentarily stunned.

Was Abigail really busy with something, or was she avoiding me? I wasn't sure, and I didn't want to think too deeply about it.
