When my words fell, Abigail's expression changed abruptly. She glared at me angrily and demanded, "What nonsense are you spouting?"
I met her gaze calmly and let out a chuckle. Nodding slightly, I said, "Am I wrong, Abigail? Didn't you stay with me back then just to keep your job?"
My statement hit its mark, and Abigail's face grew even darker. Her teeth clenched as she snapped, "Samuel, stop using such excuses to speculate about me!"
I shook my head lightly, my tone indifferent.
"Come on, Abigail, whether what I said is true or not, I think you know better than anyone else. Maybe there's no love left between us, but there's definitely something between you and Joshua. For all this time, Joshua has been sticking to you, relentlessly pursuing you.
"You two are like inseparable lovers, always finding reasons and opportunities to be together! But let me remind you, Abigail, if you keep flaunting your relationship with Joshua so blatantly, it's only a matter of time before someone finds out.
"And if things escalate, don't pin the blame on me. You'd better think carefully about the consequences before you act. Otherwise, who knows what kind of mess you'll end up in."
My words were earnest, spoken from the heart. But I could see Abigail's expression turn colder and colder as she listened. Her face flushed with anger, her lips trembling slightly.
Her eyes bore into me, filled with suppressed fury. After a moment, she finally broke the silence. "Samuel, you've got it all wrong. Joshua and I are not what you think we are…"
Her words amused me. I couldn't suppress my curiosity as I replied, "Not what I think? Then tell me, what exactly do I think? Because your nervousness and unease seem to suggest otherwise."
