The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 39

"Your artist is badly hurt, yet you're standing there and just watching? Why didn't you help bandage his wound?"

Abigail's voice was sharp with fury as she pointed an accusing finger at Cecilia.

Cecilia was speechless. She was unsure of how to even defend herself.

Joshua had ripped off the bandages himself. Yet, somehow, Cecilia was now cast as the villain with zero awareness.

Meanwhile, Joshua was still putting on his pitiful act on the couch. With an aggrieved look on his face, he held Abigail's hand and sniffed. "Don't blame her, Abigail. I told her it was just a minor injury. Actors have to accept risks like this, after all."

Abigail patted Joshua's shoulder gently and said softly, "Joshua, you need to stop being so kind. Standing up for others is all well and good, but only if they care about you in return."

She shot another sharp look at Cecilia. "It's clear she doesn't care. Why don't I find you a new assistant?"

Joshua froze at Abigail's suggestion, and he quickly waved his hand as he laughed nervously. "No need for that. Cecilia has been with me for a long time. Replacing her would mean starting all over, and that's just not necessary."

Abigail nodded at his words, and she agreed to drop the matter. Meanwhile, Cecilia stood there, clearly fuming.

Seriously? It was all Joshua's fault. Yet, here she was, being blamed and nearly getting fired on top of it.

How was that fair?

Then again, maybe getting fired would have been a blessing. Cecilia was tired of working for these hypocrites and constantly walking on eggshells every day.

Unfortunately, Cecilia knew that Joshua was too selfish to let her go that easily.

"Come on, let's get you to the hospital," Abigail said gently as she helped Joshua up. "You're hurt pretty badly. You should get proper treatment so it doesn't scar. If that happens, how will you keep acting?"

Joshua nodded obediently, then slipped on his coat and followed Abigail into the car.
