"Have you said these words to Joshua?" I folded my arms and looked at Abigail calmly as I asked rhetorically.
"He's been trending in the entertainment headlines for days now. Some people call him a resource leech while others brand him a shameless bitchy person or a home-wrecker. Don't you want to give him a name since you love him so much? Are you willing to scroll through your phone each time only to see your beloved publicly humiliated?"
Joshua had come seeking validation from me not long ago.
They already had a child together. Why did she put on this act in front of me now?
"I'll explain this to you later." Abigail moved her lips slightly. A hint of hesitation appeared on her face.
"There's no need." I shook my head faintly and looked at her calmly. "You don't owe me any explanations. Let's just end things here."
My heart had gone cold after enduring her endless insults and humiliations.
From now on, whatever she did had nothing to do with me anymore.
"My days are numbered. I'm begging you. Don't let me leave this world with unfulfilled wishes and a heart full of regrets, please?" I spoke impassively before turning around to leave.
I felt relieved that she didn't try to catch up this time.
I glanced back through a motorcycle's rear view mirror on the side of the road.
Abigail stood frozen in place. Her eyes were filled with regret, guilt, and an overwhelming sense of remorse.
I was caught off guard at the sight of her.
It felt strange to me. What was she feeling regretful and guilty about? Wasn't this what she wanted all along?
She had humiliated me and made me a public laughingstock as well as an object of scorn. I had come so far by enduring every finger pointed at me and every mocking whisper.
And now, she stood there, looking as if she regretted it all. Who exactly was she putting on a show for?
