Emily hadn’t expected Hazel, the guest of honor to come over and talk to her. Flustered, she quickly replied, “Yes, I’m Emily. Happy birthday, Hazel.” 

Seeing that everyone else had brought gifts while she came empty–handed, Emily felt a wave of embarrassment. “I’m so sorry. I forgot to bring you a gift.” 

Hazel smiled warmly. “Don’t worry about it. The gift doesn’t matter–it’s your presence that 

counts.” 

She picked up a nearby glass of red wine and handed it to Emily. “This is a special wine I chose just for tonight’s party. Go ahead and give it a taste.” 

Feeling a bit awkward, Emily took a small sip. “Its… It’s really good.” 

Hazel smiled, clearly pleased. “I’m glad you like it. Have some more if you want. Oh, by the way, are you heading back to the Dean Residence after this?” 

Emily nodded. “Yeah.” 

“Is their driver coming to pick you up?” 

Emily quickly shook her head. Not wanting Hazel to think she was a nobody in the Dean household, she quickly added, “My brother’s coming to get me, so I don’t need the driver.” 

Hazel smiled again. “Ah, I see. Well, as long as someone’s coming for you, that’s all that matters. Oh, that reminds me, we’re having a dance later, but I don’t think your current outfit is ideal for dancing. Why don’t you head upstairs and change into one of my dresses before joining us?” 

Dancing? 

I’ve never learned how to dance. Am I going to embarrass myself in front of everyone later? 

Awkwardly, she replied, “Sorry, Hazel, but I don’t know how to dance, so Ldon’t think I need to change into the dress.” 

Hazel’s eyes sparkled, and she smiled. “It’s fine if you don’t know how. I’m sure plenty of the guys here know how to dance, and they can teach you. Now, come on, Emily, let’s head upstairs and pick out a dress.” 

Without giving Emily a chance to refuse, Hazel grabbed her hand and led her upstairs to her bedroom. The room was styled like a princess‘, with pink decorations everywhere.
