Emily’s mind was racing. Now that the necklace is found, why is Hazel still involving the police and accusing me of theft? 

Then it hit her. Of course–Hazel is setting me up! She gave me the necklace on purpose, then called the cops to search me. Once they find the necklace on me, I’ll be caught red–handed and accused of theft. Hazel plans to get me arrested and then force me to help her with Fin’s bid details to clear my name. Fuming, Emily shouted, “I didn’t steal anything!” 

When the cops pulled the necklace from her bag, they asked, “If you didn’t steal this, then what’s it doing here?” 

Emily kept her calm and replied, “That necklace is a gift from Hazel. If you doubt me, just ask her. She gave it to me as a way of saying sorry.” 

The cops exchanged glances and then summoned Hazel over to sort things out. Emily turned to Hazel, hoping for help. “Finally, you’re here. Hazel, the cops think I stole your necklace. You need to tell them it’s really a gift!”

She continued, “This necklace was a special gift from my mom for my eighteenth birthday. I wouldn’t just give it away. If you’re going to lie, at least make it believable. Saying I gave it to you is just absurd!”
