Suddenly, a large hand reached past hers, lifted the glass, filled it with water, and handed it to Freya.
Observing the hand. Freya’s expression subtly shifted, and she raised her gaze to meet Nathaniel’s penetrating eyes.
His gaze was intense, laden with a myriad of emotions.
Freya chose to accept it. At this moment, her life, along with Peyton’s and Linda’s, was in his control. A single misstep could cost her everything.
Freya dutifully accepted the glass and attempted to sit up, only to be met with a wave of dizziness and discomfort.
Nathaniel gently lifted her and propped her back against a pillow.
Sitting more comfortably now, Freya drank half the glass of water. Nathaniel took the glass from her without meeting her gaze.
He slowly rose, positioned himself by the window, and reached for a cigarette. After a moment’s hesitation, he discarded it and turned his attention back to Freya.
He had been awake all night, his eyes tinged with red. The sight of the scars on Freya’s back still made him uncomfortable.
Nathaniel took a deep breath. “I’ll arrange for a doctor to examine you tomorrow.”
“Mr. Morgan, I’d like to see Peyton, Freya voiced her concern. Despite seeing Peyton’s release in the video link, she couldn’t shake off her unease.
Nathaniel scoffed. “Freya, don’t push your luck. You’re seeing a doctor tomorrow. No arguments.”
With a cold finality, he left Freya alone in the room, his exit marked by a hint of panic.
He was filled with regret for his actions on the helicopter the previous day. Yet, when he received the video from Alexander, he was met with Freya’s icy voice. Each word she uttered was a threat to his life.
His anger flared, and he wanted to punish her, to teach her a lesson.
However, Freya had hardened over the past three years. Even the harshest of punishments couldn’t break her. He must have been out of his mind to have slept with her on the helicopter.
He had asked Ms. Lovett to escort Freya back to her room, and he had avoided seeing her since. It was only when Ms. Lovett mentioned Freya’s fever that he entered her room. He had spent the entire night tending to her, his eyes now bloodshot.
After Nathaniel’s departure, Freya sat on the bed, her mood somber. She still clutched the glass Nathaniel had given her. She drained the water, and the burning sensation in her throat eased slightly.
Freya lay down, her strength drained. She didn’t express any anger, her mind in a haze, but her hands clung tightly to the quilt, trembling slightly.
