Chapter 70 Uncertain Investigation Unveiled
Peyton slowly regained consciousness after being jolted by the icy water. She clenched the ladder tightly, gritting her teeth as she climbed up.
Just as she was about a step or two away from reaching the top and being able to lean over the poolside to grab Freya, a series of sounds emanated from the edge of the pool. It was reminiscent of the noise made when a shop’s roller shutter is being lowered, complete with the electronic remote control.
Freya, filled with terror, looked up towards the ceiling and noticed there was another layer above the swimming pool–a cover to prevent foreign objects from falling into the water and dirtying it.
The sky above gradually shrank until it became a thin line right above Freya and Peyton’s heads, and darkness descended upon them completely.
They found themsel vast enclosed space, surrounded by the chilling water,
in gasping for air.
Nathaniel had been unable to muster any interest in attending parties or business negotiations these past few days. After just finishing a business meeting, he even declined the host’s hospitality and instead returned to the villa he had purchased with Freya as their future marital home.
This time, as Nathaniel entered Newport Villa, he instinctively glanced at the neighboring Gomez family. The Gomez family’s villa had long been abandoned due to unfortunate circumstances that had befallen the family, making it difficult to auction off the property.
However, with the Gomez family bankrupt and owing debts to the bank, their assets needed to be seized through foreclosure to repay the debts.
Nathaniel had bought the Gomez family’s villa and had not set foot in it since the incident that occurred three years ago.
He watched as the place he used to visit frequently gradually turned into ruins over three years..
Ever since the day Abigail and Jolin orchestrated the incident that burned Freya, Nathaniel had been feeling a strange unease.
Later, it was revealed that Abigail was the mastermind behind the accident, intending to kill Nathaniel began to feel that something was off.
In his impression, Abigail had always been obedient, with a good and gentle nature.
Freya.
On the other hand, Freya was strong–willed, domineering, and as vibrant as the most beautiful flower on the mountain peak.
When these two women clashed, everyone assumed that Freya was the one bullying Abigail, but the information he had on hand told him that he might have been wrong all along.
As Nathaniel pondered this, a shiver ran down his spine.
He locked the investigative report in a compartment in his study. He hadn’t doubted Abigail before.
