Chapter 88 Nathaniel’s Search For Freya
“No one pursued me. Nathaniel didn’t manage to catch up. I struck his head with a root carving. He probably won’t be able to catch up for a while,” Freya said, catching her breath.
“What!” Peyton stared at Freya in disbelief. She had the audacity to hit Nathaniel?
Regaining her composure, she gave Freya a thumbs up. “Fay, you must be the first person in Saeville brave enough to hit Nathaniel on the head?”
They entered the front room, filled with everyday necessities and an old–fashioned TV playing a movie. Perhaps Peyton, anxious while waiting for Freya, had turned it on.
The previous owner had sold the building with all its furniture intact, which was convenient for Freya and
the others.
“Where’s my mother?”
“Aunt Linda is resting in the inner room. Dr. Jones helped us get a lot of medication. He’s aware of your
situation.
Freya paused, feeling it was inappropriate for Peyton to inform Dominic about her.
Peyton quickly explained, “Today was a mess. I wanted to bring Aunt Linda here. Halfway through the process. Dr. Jones summoned me to his office. He refused to let me take Aunt Linda, claiming it was too risky. 1 argued that her condition was stable, thanks to the imported medication she’d been taking. But Dr. Jones remained adamant. He was concerned that moving her could worsen her condition. He even offered to help us find a more affordable wellness center where we could stay and continue her recovery. I had no choice but to tell him about your situation.”
Peyton gestured towards the medication on the cabinet. “Surprisingly, Dr. Jones was sympathetic. He helped us get more medication and even arranged for a car to bring me here. I didn’t want to implicate him.”
Freya sighed in relief. “He’s a good man. You’re also aware of Nathaniel’s tactics. We need to leave here as soon as possible.”
Freya followed Peyton into the cast room, where the sharp scent of disinfectant filled the air.
Killian’s wife, Linda, had been bedridden for a long time following a car accident. Her muscles had started to atrophy, and she even developed partial ulcers. Freya and Peyton had to regularly clean her body with a disinfectant solution and apply body powder. Her bedding and other supplies also needed constant disinfection.
Peyton had arranged for a couple of nurses to bring Linda here and had cleaned her before Freya’s arrival.
To Peyton, Linda was more than just Freya’s mother. She had cared for Linda for three years, and Linda had become like a mother to her,
“Aunt Linda seems fine. Don’t worry, Peyton reassured, adjusting the quilt covering Linda.
Freya sat beside Linda, gripping her hand tightly. She whispered, “Mom, I’ll get you out of here as soon as

Her eyes welled up as she spoke.
