Deborah could tell that Evelyn hesitated, and her expression instantly changed. She could not help but feel a

Deborah stared at her for a moment before she sighed. “If Lucas‘ grandfather was not close my friends with your grandfather, I would’ve gone to him to demand an explanation!” 

Maria was the one who agreed to this marriage back then. She kept promising that Lucas would never wrong Evelyn. It was only then that Deborah believed her.
