Evelyn could, of course, tell that the atmosphere between them was loving. 

She paused in brief thought. It was no wonder Lucas hadn’t been frank with Maria about their divorce yet, but he took the initiative to explain that she would be accomparing Deborah this Easter. He had been more than happy for her to celebrate with the Reeds. 

That way, she wouldn’t do what she did those few years and drive him home, be it on her own volition or due to Maria’s urging.
