"It's alright. I can just head back down the mountain now." Evelyn had no interest in staying there and being an eyesore.
She had just taken a step when a warm hand caught her wrist. Meeting Lucas' nonchalant gaze, she heard him say, "You can stay. I'll switch rooms."
Evelyn frowned. She was about to shake his hand off when he released his grip and deliberately created some distance between them. "It'll be hard for me to explain things to Grandma if you leave now."
She immediately understood what he meant. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she clarified, "Are you saying that you want me to cover for you and Tiffany?"
What did he mean by it would be hard for him to explain things to Maria? What on earth did he take her for?
Lucas looked at her and adjusted his cufflinks. "We wouldn't be having such problems if you had not come up here."
A wave of frustration filled up from within her. Was he trying to say that the whole situation was her fault?
She pursed her lips and stated her condition. "Fine, but you have to approve my resignation immediately."
He narrowed his eyes as he smirked in amusement. "Alright."
Evelyn did not know why he was smiling, but she turned and returned to her room.
After running into Lucas and Tiffany, she finally understood why he had never mentioned the trip to her. It turned out he had planned to bring Tiffany instead.
If she knew that would be the case, she would never have come willingly.
Evelyn rubbed her temples. Although she no longer cared about such things, she still felt hurt.
After unpacking some of her clothes, she looked up some activities that she could do up in the mountains.
As it turned out, there was a horse stable where the employees would guide the horse around to allow their guests to experience horseback riding. It seemed like an interesting activity to her.
So, Evelyn went straight to the stables.
She had just arrived when she heard a shy voice exclaimed, "Blake! You're being naughty again!"
"How is this my fault?" Blake replied in a mischievous tone.
Evelyn paused, only to find two sets of eyes turning toward her. Blake and Jessica were riding a horse together. Holding the reins, he had one arm around her. He used his other hand to tilt her chin upward to kiss her.
Perhaps she had been staring for too long because Blake suddenly turned and looked over. His eyes were dark, and he frowned instinctively.
It was as if he was displeased at being interrupted while he was flirting.
