The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving novel Chapter 91

When Evelyn called, Maria didn't pick up for a long time. It was only around 8:00 pm—not too late. Maria was quite the spirited one, always watching drama and scrolling through videos. She wouldn't have gone to bed this early.

So, Evelynn tried the landline at home instead. A housekeeper answered. "Mrs. Grant, Mrs. Grant Senior hasn't been feeling well these past two days. She's resting now—barely had an appetite all day."

Evelyn couldn't help but worry. "What happened? Is it her blood pressure?"

"The family doctor checked on her. She caught a cold, and her blood pressure has been unstable. Mrs. Grant, if you have time, could you come home? We tried convincing her to take better care of herself, but she won't listen to us…"

Evelyn hesitated for a moment. Now that she knew Maria was sick, pretending nothing had happened didn't sit right with her.

Besides, Maria had always treated her with so much kindness. No matter how she looked at it, she should go see her.

"Alright. I'll be there soon."

After quickly unpacking her things, she headed to Grant Manor. She had initially planned to ask Maria whether Lucas had been home, but now, she would have to go back and see for herself.

When she arrived, a housekeeper handed her a pair of slippers. She noticed Maria resting on the couch in the living room. The moment Maria heard movement, she immediately sat up and smiled warmly.

"Evie, you're back! They told me you're coming, so I waited for you. Did you just get off work?"

Seeing that Maria's complexion wasn't too bad, Evelyn felt a little more at ease. "Grandma, how are you feeling? I heard you've barely eaten."

Maria took Evelyn's hand kindly. "It's nothing. I'm getting old—aches and pains are normal. Skipping a couple of meals is just a good detox."

Evelyn frowned slightly. "That won't do. Tell me what you feel like eating, and I'll make it for you."

Maria's mood immediately lifted. "Really? How about oatmeal? Yours always tastes the best."

Evelyn smiled. "All right. Just give me a moment."

Back when she was married to Lucas, she had honed her cooking skills just for him. Maria had tasted her cooking before and often craved it.
