Jason
Impatiently, I tapped my feet on the beat of the pouring rain as I waited in front of the mansion that would change my life.
I had traveled all the way to Los Angeles for this, and I would not be leaving without meeting him.
Leonardo Baldini.
The Leone.
"What's the name again, boy?" A rude guard at the gate asked, holding his communication device close to his mouth.
"Jason Falco—that is F-A-L-C-O," I spelled out my name. "I need to meet Leonardo Baldini. It's important!"
He walked off again, eyeing me suspiciously as his mouth moved into the device. Sure, it was odd. A random man dressed in ordinary clothing dEmilyanding to meet the big boss, but I had my reasons.
That bitch was going down, and so was her little boyfriend who she had sent after me.
After years of being ungrateful, she packed her bags, my daughter, and fled. I had been looking for her for a while, and when I had found her—I learned that she had moved to a big mansion and would become the daughter-in-law of some powerful family in the East Coast.
I sacrificed my career to raise her and that child, provided for thEmily, became the man of the house—and this is what I got in return.
I even tried to take back my daughter, to lure that bitch back—but in the end I decided against it. With this new plan, I could not have any more distractions.
"Fuck!" I cursed as a raindrop fell right down the painful cut across my cheek. I held the spot with my hand, trying to battle the burning sensation.
The day that asshole held a gun to my head, was the day I found out what true power meant.
Before he had failed to eliminate me, he gave me his name—Alessio Fanucci.
He shouldn't have done that, and he shouldn't have given me a second chance—because the second I had regained my strength, I vouched to one day do the same as he had done to me. I would humiliate him, mock him, laugh at him, press a gun to his head—and unlike him, I would make sure mine would work.
I asked around and found out what that family truly stood for. They posed as legit business people, but all that mafia family knew was organized crime. They controlled the city, and all the people in it. From politicians, to police—everyone knew thEmily, respected thEmily and feared thEmily.
'You don't touch the Fanuccis.'
That was the unspoken rule one of the locals told me. I hated listening, and had already decided that I was going to touch the Fanuccis. Especially that motherfucker.
He took my woman.
My daughter.
I would beat him at his own game and take his life.
It took some questioning because not everyone was willing to speak, but after some digging I found out that Alessio broke off his engagEmilyent with Maxine Baldini. Daughter of the Lione who no one dared to cross.
He told her he would marry a maid, but as I asked around it surprised me that no one knew that maid was Emily.
These people lived so privately, and those that did know would not discuss the Fanucci's business.
Alessio humiliated that girl, like Emily did with me.
We shared the same pain, and that's why I came up with a plan.
The guard from earlier tapped on the gate to grab my attention, then it opened. "It's your lucky day boy. The Leone wants to meet you."
As several men led me through the vintage designed mansion, I could understand the nickname. Just like they told me, that man must be as powerful as the Fanuccis. All doors were guarded by men and I knew I had to play my cards right.
One bad move, and I would not come out of here alive.
"He's in here," one of the men pushed me into the office. "Good luck. I hope you get to keep your limbs."
The door was shut, but not before I could hear the laughter from the curious group of people outside.
Yes, that's right.
They could laugh at me if they wanted, but it would only be a matter of time before I would be pulling the strings around here.
