The Returning EX (John and Sophia) novel Chapter 1489

Chapter 1489 Eating Alone

As Ian waited for the water to boil, he couldn’t stop himself from thinking about Cindy once again.

Ever since she came into his life, Ian hadn’t been in the kitchen much. She was skilled, and not just at ferrying things around and being his assistant; she could also completely handle all kitchen-related affairs.

Ian then thought of how Cindy looked as she cooked—her expression had been both serious and soft.

He leaned against the stove and wrapped his arms around his shoulders. After some thought, he brought his phone over.

By then, Cindy had already logged out of the game.

Ian scrolled through some gossip before logging into Facebook for some idle scrolling. Then, he saw Cindy’s selfie.

Half of her face was in the picture, while the other half of the picture was the background. Ian could tell at a glance that she was at a hotel.

She hadn’t gone back, and she hadn’t left the city either.

Why was she staying at this hotel?

If she had nothing else to do, she could have just stayed behind.

Yet, she went one step further and booked herself a room at a hotel.

Ian pursed his lips as he enlarged the photo and took a closer look. Indeed, it was a hotel. He chuckled coldly then, not because of Cindy, but because of himself. He felt like he was being a busybody. Cindy could stay wherever she wanted, and what did this have to do with him? Moreover, what did Cindy’s choice about not going back to her hometown have to do with him? Or her decision to go without seeing her family for a while?

As though he was sulking, he switched his phone off and continued to cook his dumplings.

With his dumplings ready, Ian sat down at the dining table alone. Perhaps it was because he already had a dining companion for a while, so eating alone felt odd. He felt a little unused to this.

After some hesitation, he called Aurora.

Aurora quickly answered her phone, a hint of a smile in her voice. “Ian, it’s late. Is there anything?”

Ian denied it before continuing to say, “Have you had dinner yet?”

Aurora let out a gasp. “Look at the time—of course I’ve already had dinner.”

“Oh,” he answered before falling silent.

Aurora was a little surprised. “Why did you call me? With the way you’re behaving now, it’s like you’re trying to find a conversation topic when you don’t feel like talking. Where’s Cindy? Is she not in?”

How did his mother figure out that Cindy wasn’t with him?

Ian sighed. “She’s on holiday.”

Aurora was a little taken aback. “With your relationship, does she still need a holiday?”

Ian gave it some thought before answering. He said, “She hasn’t gone back to her hometown in a while, so she went back to see her parents.”

Aurora chuckled. “No wonder. I could hear that something was off with your tone. Turns out that Cindy isn’t in.”

Ian took a breath. Why did his mother sound so much like Logan?

Was there something about the way he spoke? How did she figure all of this out?

Ian didn’t want to bring Cindy up again, so he told Aurora about the resources that Lorraine had pooled for her. The roles so far seemed to be more like parts for extras, but they still had a little more screentime than regular extras.

Ian then told Aurora that if she improved her reputation through good performances, and if the investors agreed to it as well, she would get more chances in the future.

Aurora was ecstatic upon hearing that. “It’s okay. It’s fine as long as I have roles, and I won’t be picky about them. I truly didn’t have a single chance back then. Being able to have more screentime is already great enough.”

Ian hummed. “The entertainment industry now is different from how it was in your time. You can’t be too stubborn. Nowadays, your future can be easily destroyed if the wind so much as blows at you wrong.” He paused for a moment before continuing, “Besides, there is a chance that someone might dig up the past between you and my father. You should mentally prepare yourself and also think of an excuse. If the time comes and someone asks you about it, you’ll be ready to handle it.”

Aurora smiled. “Relax, I have made plans for that.”

Ian also knew that his mother had been in the entertainment industry for a long time, so she didn’t need a spring chicken like him to guide her. So, he simply nodded. “Okay, it’s getting late now. You should sleep early.”

Aurora gasped. “How are you going to feed yourself for the next few days when Cindy isn’t around?”
