Cindy nodded. They went into the car and after she fastened her seatbelt, she said, “I also read that aside from Logan and Sophia, you didn’t have a lot of friends. You must have felt lonely back then.”
Ian was pensive for a moment, but without reading too much into Cindy’s remark, he replied, “It was fine by me. I’ve never been a fan of large crowds anyway.” Then, he gave a low chuckle. “Sophia and I haven’t known each other that long. I used to do bar gigs back in the day and I met her on one of her travels.”
He started the car and pulled away from the curb. As they drove down the road, he appeared to have thought of something and it made him chuckle fondly as he added, “I remember she had only just divorced from John a couple of days before I met her. She was traveling to kind of drown out the melodrama, but she ended up staying in the same hotel as John since he happened to be traveling for work at that time as well.”
There was a genuine smile on Ian’s face as he recounted such anecdotes about John and Sophia. No longer did he feel any resentment or grudge.
On the other hand, Cindy had never stumbled across the news of John and Sophia’s divorce back in the day. On the contrary, the media outlets had intended on broadcasting the details of Sophia’s alleged scandal with Ian instead. Cindy had no interest in Sophia whatsoever, so she hardly paid attention to Sophia.
Presently, she raised a brow as she pointed out, “I didn’t know they were divorced. I mean, they look pretty happy with each other.”
He sighed ruefully. “It wasn’t always like this. Some people just won’t appreciate what they have until they’ve lost them.”
Confusion dawned upon her. “Are you saying that things were rocky for them in the beginning?”
The details of John and Sophia’s first marriage were foggy to Ian, but he tried his best to enlighten Cindy nonetheless. “Theirs started out as an arranged marriage by their parents. They never dated before that, so I guess all their flaws and differences made things hard for them in the beginning.”
Cindy slowly nodded. “When I saw them the other day, I really thought that they dated for a while before settling down. They looked really happy together.”
“They only started to mend their relationship after the divorce,” Ian said, refuting her beliefs with a shake of his head. “Or, maybe the attachment was formed during their first marriage but they never realized it. It was only after they separated that they discovered how intertwined their lives were, but stuff like that is more common than you might think.”
An absentminded Cindy hummed and didn’t add more to the conversation. She thought Ian sounded rather unaffected when she brought up Sophia’s name earlier and she didn’t hear regret in his tone either.
Logan’s words from back at the clubhouse flashed in her mind. She didn’t want to believe him, but seeing Ian like this made her believe that Logan was worthy of some credit.
It didn’t take long for them to arrive home and they entered the house to find Aurora lying on the couch in a miserable heap.
She only peered at Cindy and Ian from the corner of her eyes as they walked in, but she quickly looked away and returned to stare at the ceiling.
The television had not been turned on and the house was clad in a heavy silence.
Cindy walked up to Aurora and asked, “What’s with the long face?”
Aurora sighed wearily, her eyes still trained on the ceiling as she mumbled, “Nothing. I just realized how meaningless life can be. It’s like I can’t do anything right.”
At the mention of this, Cindy instantly understood why Aurora was being all melancholic. A brief pause later, she smiled and responded, “Don’t look so defeated. There’s still plenty of time for you to turn things around. Besides, I was at the hospital too and saw how delicate and vulnerable Old Mr. Morgan looked. I don’t think he’s doing very well with his treatment, but he’s so stubborn he won’t let anyone take care of him. He’s probably just bracing through the pain. A little patience goes a long way and maybe your chance to get back at him is just right around the corner!”
Aurora was not convinced, but Cindy’s words gave her solace. With a despondent hum, she said, “I just don’t know how long I have to stay here. What if nothing changes by the time we leave? I can’t just wait around for his downfall before I drop by to deliberately gloat in front of him; he’s not worth it.”
Then, she propped herself up on the couch and curiously glanced at Ian, “What did you and your father talk about?”
Ian made a beeline for his bedroom. “Not much. I told him that the media might tag along with me to snap a couple of photos during the next visit and that I’ll give him a heads up before the news breaks.”
Aurora leapt down from the couch and tailed after him, coming to a stop outside his bedroom entrance. “Did he get mad when you told him that the media would snap a couple of photos?”

The readers' comments on the novel: The Returning EX (John and Sophia)
So what happens to Ian and Cindy. Is she/ or does she get pregnant? Do they go back to the city and Ian works with Logan? Does Aurora stay in the entertainment industry or return with Ian? Terrible ending, who cares if Aurora was drinking/drunk with colleagues. What happened with Ian and Cindy?!...
Get rid of Gary. Apparently Cindy is too dumb to figure out his motives 😡...
Why are you trying to break them up when they just got together and are a loving couple. Let them stay close and move back to their true friends, Logan, Lola, John and Sophia!...
Sure hope Ian pulls his head out of his behind and works this out with Cindy. His brother needs him at the company and neither one of them truly like the celebrity life. Sophia and Lola will love her …....
I can’t wait for John to take down the Bailey’s including Isabelle so he, Sophia, William and Matilda can live in peace. Introduce Yolanda to Richard so they are out of the picture....
Ugh, don’t break up Sophia and John… they belong together and Sophia is just stubborn for no reason...
Sophia lives John, he just needs to tell her he loves her and get on with their life and family. Too much interference from others....
Sophia is so stupid....
John needs to man up, tell his mother and Isabelle to take a flying leap and confess to Sophia that he made a horrible mistake in divorcing her. This story is taking too long and once again, the bitches are looking like they are on the right side. Awful...
