The Returning EX (John and Sophia) novel Chapter 1872

Chapter 1872 First Proper Date

Because they were staying in the same city, Leah, being the most determined resentful shrew there ever was, would most definitely try to get something out of Sean for her own benefit.

Even if Sean and Leah shared no relation at all, he and Simon were still step-brothers by blood, thanks to Bryce.

It seemed as if there was no way Sean could escape their incessant badgering. At the thought of this, Ian felt a twinge of sympathy for him, and he wondered what great sin Sean had committed in his past life to cross paths with Leah and her spawn in this one.

Presently, Sean and Ian chatted idly for a while before they each hung up the call, with the former claiming that he had stuff to attend to on his end.

Ian set his phone aside and heaved a sigh. “I used to really envy Sean because the old man favored him. He had everyone’s respect, and Leah and her children dared not get on his bad side.” Having said this, he clicked his tongue and shook his head ruefully. “But now I’m starting to see how things aren’t always smooth sailing for him, and he’s pretty much caught between a rock and a hard place.”

Cindy hummed thoughtfully at this. “Everyone sees only the glory and glamor, but the real hardship is something only known to the person going through it.”

It was still early, and they had nothing much to do. After a moment of hesitation, Ian decided to bring Cindy out for a stroll.

They were both homebodies, terminally so, and Ian had never once brought her on a trip or anywhere fun since before they started this relationship.

In actuality, they had plenty of free time on their hands, but their laziness kept them indoors for a better part of the day.

When Ian suggested that they go out for a walk, Cindy did not protest. She had never been on a proper date with him, and the thought of it was somewhat exciting.

They changed into clothes that would not draw too much attention to themselves and headed out.

Ian didn’t have a car of his own, so they hailed taxis wherever they went, though that didn’t inconvenience them in the slightest; they could easily flag a passing taxi by putting up their arms on the roadside.

As such, they managed to flag a taxi, and Ian informed the driver of their destination, which happened to be a newly opened amusement park in the area. To be accurate, the park had only just opened up not a week ago.

Underneath her mask, Cindy’s lips curled into a bemused smile. This would be the first time in her entire life that she stepped foot into an amusement park, and she couldn’t believe that her first proper date with Ian would be at someplace so childish.

However, she figured that Ian was at a loss for ideas as well, hence the amusement park.

To be fair to him, they were both equally inexperienced in the realm of relationships, and it would take a lot of fine-tuning for them to acclimate to one another as boyfriend and girlfriend.

It took about half an hour for them to reach the amusement park, and along the way, Cindy leaned against his arm, her body slanting in the backseat.

She rested her head on Ian’s shoulder and thought about what Yulia had looked like earlier today. That woman has like a thousand faces; we were all so used to seeing her as a snobby intellect, but she just had to show up today like a cool and suave woman who knew how to get her way. Alas, whatever Yulia looked like, Cindy still felt like she was inferior to her.

The feeling left a bitter taste in Cindy’s mouth, and when Yulia had called Ian on the phone earlier, Cindy could still hear how much she still pined after him, even though their conversation had been a short one.

Having a rival as superior and determined as Yulia was unsettling, and the warning sirens were constantly sounding off in Cindy’s heart as she dwelled on this.

As of now, the taxi driver did not recognize Ian and Cindy at all, and merely presumed they were an ordinary couple in love.

Cindy let the silence drag on for a bit before turning to rest her chin on Ian’s shoulder, then glanced up at him as she said quietly, “If you’re going to start filming on set, then do you promise to text and call me every day?”

He chuckled and turned to meet her gaze. Their heads were close, and even with their masks on, they looked like they were to kiss. He lowered his voice and replied, “Let’s just see how it goes. If the set isn’t too far away from home, then I’ll skip out on the hotel and come back every day. I don’t think I’ll like the hotels anyway.”

She laughed and said nothing to this. Ian used to stay in tons of hotels because he had to go around filming scenes at various places, and for him to turn around now and say that he didn’t like staying at hotels was an amusing twist indeed.

They laughed and chatted along the way to the amusement park, and it was only when the car rolled to a stop outside their destination that they stepped out of the vehicle.
