He had never imagined himself actually dating Cindy when he first met her. I remember how Logan used to tease me for being a good match with Cindy. I didn't think much about his words back then. I just thought he was bad at matching couples. Ian rolled over in bed and closed his eyes. All he wanted now was to leave the hospital and finish filming his scheduled scenes as soon as possible so that he could get engaged to Cindy.
Once they got engaged, they could take it to the next step. Ian still felt rather insecure when it was just an engagement without the official paperwork of a married couple. Cindy was at her peak, and Gary had a close relationship with Mr. Kaufmann from Paramount Group, after all. Ian couldn't help but feel like there were a bunch of wolves waiting in the shadows, eyeing the little sheep he had in his arms.
After a series of complicated thoughts, Ian eventually fell asleep. However, his sleep had never been good when he was at the hospital. He would often wake up in the middle of the night even though there weren't any noises outside. He simply felt weird as his embrace was empty.
Ian had never been one to get too attached to others. Despite being a warm and gentle person, he could also be rather cold-hearted. However, the same rules didn't seem to apply to Cindy. All the emotions that he had suppressed in the past seemed to have finally found an outlet for them to be released, and it seemed to pour out of him all at once.
He turned around and fumbled in the dark for his phone. At this hour, he was sure that Cindy was asleep, so he didn't disturb her. He scrolled through his Facebook instead. After thinking about it for a while, he used Gary's phone number to search for his Facebook account. People who hadn't added him as a friend could only see up to ten of his posts, so Ian tapped into his profile and took a look.
There wasn't much to see—it was mostly shared posts about finance and investment. However, one of the posts looked rather different. It didn't have a picture attached; all it had was a bunch of words that generally talked about him feeling conflicted as he didn't know whether or not to let go. Ian had always felt rather afraid of Gary, and all sorts of unnecessary thoughts popped into his head after he saw Gary's post.
Soon after that, Ian returned to the set and filmed for a few days before he applied for leave to prepare for his engagement with Cindy. Cindy, too, applied for a leave from Serena. Serena was glad to give Cindy a holiday since Cindy had shown a huge improvement in her fashion design skills. Furthermore, Serena could tell that Cindy was a serious woman who was willing to endure hardships at work. Most importantly, Cindy was a determined woman. Judging by the way she handled her interpersonal relationships, Serena could tell that she was someone who wouldn't allow other matters to affect her emotions.
This trait was particularly pleasing to Serena. It was rare to find someone as young as Cindy who could remain so calm and stable when faced with interpersonal conflicts. So, although Cindy had asked to take a few days off, Serena was totally willing to give it to her.
After getting her leave approved, Cindy packed her bags and prepared a meal while waiting for Ian to return. While she was waiting, she took a picture of the dishes on her dining table before uploading it to Facebook. She didn't have any intention other than showing off her cooking skills, so she didn't include a caption when she uploaded the picture.
To her surprise, Gary liked her photo just five minutes after she posted it. She hadn't interacted much with Gary recently. Ever since the last time they had awkwardly parted ways in front of her house, Gary hadn't contacted her at all. Cindy had never been one to initiate conversations with Gary as she didn't have a reason to do so. Sometimes, Gary would have projects that he wanted to invest in, but she didn't know much about those, so he was usually the one to make the decisions.
Cindy stared at the notification of Gary liking her post for a long time before letting out a long sigh. For some reason, things had gotten extremely uncomfortable between them. She couldn't understand what was going on, so she simply put her phone down.
A while later, Ian came home with his luggage. Judging by the rather worn expression on his face, he had probably just returned from a shoot. There was still some makeup on his face. Cindy hurried over to bring his bags in. After he shut the door, he reached his hand out and pulled Cindy into his arms.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Returning EX (John and Sophia)
So what happens to Ian and Cindy. Is she/ or does she get pregnant? Do they go back to the city and Ian works with Logan? Does Aurora stay in the entertainment industry or return with Ian? Terrible ending, who cares if Aurora was drinking/drunk with colleagues. What happened with Ian and Cindy?!...
Get rid of Gary. Apparently Cindy is too dumb to figure out his motives 😡...
Why are you trying to break them up when they just got together and are a loving couple. Let them stay close and move back to their true friends, Logan, Lola, John and Sophia!...
Sure hope Ian pulls his head out of his behind and works this out with Cindy. His brother needs him at the company and neither one of them truly like the celebrity life. Sophia and Lola will love her …....
I can’t wait for John to take down the Bailey’s including Isabelle so he, Sophia, William and Matilda can live in peace. Introduce Yolanda to Richard so they are out of the picture....
Ugh, don’t break up Sophia and John… they belong together and Sophia is just stubborn for no reason...
Sophia lives John, he just needs to tell her he loves her and get on with their life and family. Too much interference from others....
Sophia is so stupid....
John needs to man up, tell his mother and Isabelle to take a flying leap and confess to Sophia that he made a horrible mistake in divorcing her. This story is taking too long and once again, the bitches are looking like they are on the right side. Awful...
