“Oh my god, that’s so sweet. I just want to fall in love already.”
“Does anyone actually know what’s really going on between the Chairman and Mr. Vesper? Are they dating or not?”
…
The chattering only stopped when the two of them walked over.
“President Carmichael, Mr. Vesper, you made it!”
It was clear the company’s younger staff had gone all out for the beach day: the women lounged in bikinis, the guys wore nothing but swim trunks, their bare chests catching the sun.
But Citrine and Sebastian were in a league of their own. She had a beach wrap draped over her shoulders, and he wore a simple t-shirt, the two of them standing out all the more as a pair.
Of course, no one dared say that aloud—those thoughts stayed firmly in everyone’s heads.
Someone piped up, “Mr. Vesper, why don’t you come surfing with us?”
Sebastian shot Citrine a quick, unreadable look, then nodded. “Sure, I’m in.”
The group made their way down to the sand. Citrine shrugged off her wrap as soon as they reached the shore.
She revealed a pale blue bikini that made her skin look even more luminous.
All eyes immediately landed on her.
“She’s so fair-skinned…”
“Look at that waist. I mean, how is that even possible?”
“And those legs—so long and slim. Not an ounce of extra weight.”
“Her back’s so delicate…”
“Oh my god, she’s gorgeous. I think I’m in love.”
…
It wasn’t just the women who stole glances; more than a few of the guys couldn’t keep their eyes off Citrine either.
Citrine didn’t seem to notice, but Sebastian—standing a little apart—took in every detail, his gaze darkening ever so slightly.
At that moment, he wanted nothing more than to wrap her up, to shield her from all those admiring eyes.
But of course, he couldn’t do a thing about it.
Sebastian took it and slipped it over his head.
Once they were both ready, they headed for the water’s edge.
“Hold on tight.” She handed him the end of the leash.
As Sebastian climbed onto his board, Citrine hopped onto hers with practiced ease.
“Knees bent, engage your core,” she coached.
Sebastian was a quick study. Everything Citrine explained, he understood instantly and put into action.
In no time at all, he didn’t even need to hold the safety line anymore.
“Not bad,” Citrine grinned. “You’re picking this up fast—a lot faster than I did, honestly.”
Sebastian didn’t know why, but standing on the board, it was like he’d been doing this forever, as if the board and he were one and the same.
