The next morning, a carriage from the Marris’s estate, along with several quards sent by Dale, arrived early at the gates of Saint Grace Nunnery. However, they did not immediately knock on the door
it was only after Eliza had completed her morning prayers and blessings that they respectfully asked a nun to announce
the presences
A short while later, Eliza, dressed in a white gown adorned with purple patterns, took her seat in the Marquis’s estate’s
Carriage
The carriage jostled its way toward Hasen City Inside, Eliza sat upright, her eyes closed in quiet contemplation.
In contrast to the serene atmosphere within the carriage, the people outside were a different story. Those who had come to escort Eliza were Dale’s personal guards, led by Yann Nevill, Dafe’s cousin.
Date often entrusted Yann with many tasks, including dealings with the Duke’s estate. Thus, Yann was also aware of Dale’s plan this tire
Dale was currently at the Duke’s estate, confronting members of the Stonor family, which was why he had sent Yann to fetch Eliza
Yann didn’t know much about Eliza, and when he learned that Dale wanted this young Holy Lady to preside over matters at the Duke’s estate, he wasn’t very optimistic. He thought Eliza was far too young.
Even though she was the Holy Lady, her youth would likely prevent her from the intimidating Duke of Mowbay. Moreover, the Holy Lady had been driven to become a nun by the Duke’s estate last year, or so the story went. Originally, Eliza had chosen to become a nun of her own accord, but after Gabriel declared her disowned, it seemed as if she had been forced into it.
Many people in Hasen City, including Yann, believed this version of the story. Naturally, he didn’t think Eliza’s intervention would be effective.
However, upon seeing the outfit Eliza wore that day, Yann’s opinion changed instantly. The white symbolized her status as the Holy Lady, while the purple cloud patterns represented royalty.
Clearly, this was a gift from the king. The fact that the king had bestowed fabric with such royal symbols upon the Holy Lady meant that her status was far more than just equivalent to a princess.
The king had personally certified that the Holy Lady’s dignity was on par with the royal family. Being equivalent to a princess and being equivalent to the royal family were two very different things.
This attire was something only members of the royal family could wear. In fact, Eliza might be the only person in
Bortenland who was not of royal blood but could wear the clothes in the purple cloud pattern.
Thus, Vann’s attitude shifted in an instant. With the Holy Lady dressed like this, her appearance at the Duke’s estate would undoubtedly shock everyone present. That alone would be enough to command respect.
Eliza was unaware of the chaotic thoughts running through Yann’s mind and those of the others outside the carriage. But she had chosen to wear this particular outfit for precisely the reason Yann had guessed. She was there to assert her authority,
Two hours later, the carriage arrived in Hasen City.
