In the hospital room, Noelle’s gentle voice filled the air. “Look. This is Bobby, and he’s playing soccer with Carrie.

Despite the obvious exhaustion on her face, her eyes remained soft as she looked at Rosie. There was even a faint smile lingering on her lips. 

Rosie was engrossed in a picture book. She had lost some weight, making her large eyes appear even bigger. Coupled with her pale skin, she looked almost like a porcelain doll. 

She quickly looked up when she heard a sound. The moment she saw Seline, she greeted her excitedly, “Seline!” 

If this were before, Seline would have responded with equal enthusiasm. But today, Hendrix’s reaction had left her deeply unsettled. 

Noelle had shared bits and pieces of what had happened back then with her. When she left Hendrix, everyone had assumed she saw him as a sinking ship and jumped at the chance to escape. 

Thus, Seline found it understandable that Hendrix would resent Noelle. But no matter what, Rosie was his child- his own flesh and blood! How could he be so cold–hearted? 

Seline’s mind raced as she thought about everything Rosie had been through and everything Noelle had endured during childbirth and postpartum. If it hadn’t been for her support, Noelle might have completely broken down. 

Did Hendrix not know about any of this? Or did he simply not care? And now, even as Rosie faced such a crisis, he couldn’t be bothered to lift a finger? 

“Seline!” Rosie called cheerfully again. 

It was only then that Seline snapped out of her thoughts and looked at her in a daze. 

While Rosie simply looked puzzled, Noelle’s expression had grown serious. 

Seline knew what she was worried about and quickly forced a smile before changing the subject. “What are you reading? I don’t think I’ve seen this book before. Can you tell me about it, Rosie?” 

Rosie’s attention was easily diverted. 

Even though Noelle still looked concerned, she didn’t say anything to Seline out of fear of upsetting Rosie. 

Finally, the moment Rosie fell asleep, Noelle turned to Seline immediately. “What’s wrong?” 

Her voice was tense, and her eyes were locked onto Seline’s. “Did the doctors say something to you?” 

“No. You’re overthinking things,” Seline denied it quickly, forcing a smile. 

But her strained expression did little to reassure Noelle. If anything, her face grew paler. 

In the end, Seline could only say, “No, don’t get me wrong. The doctors really didn’t say anything to me. I was just wondering whether you’ve called Hendrix yet.” 

“No, I haven’t.” 

“Maybe we should keep it that way?” 

Noelle looked up at her. 

“After all, we’re in Coppersville right now. It’s not that big of a city, and you know how influential he is. He’ll probably find out on his own. And when he does, he’ll naturally reach out to you. But if you contact him now,
