Chapter 159
That red beam made everyone’s hair stand on end. Walter instinctively tensed his whole body, sharply looking towards the source of it, which was in the dense and concealed jungle outside the window. He slightly squinted his eyes, unconsciously shielding Shakira behind him and keeping her away from Fiona.
Seeing Walter’s arm blocking her path, this familiar scene made Shakira pause and feel a bit dazed. Meanwhile, Fiona completely lost her composure, with tears as big as beans rolling down her cheeks.
“I–I didn’t mean to do anything. I was wrong, and I won’t dare to offend Matthew again,” said Fiona. “Walter, please save me, boohoo…
Shakira snapped back to reality as she listened to Fiona’s cries. Matthew’s identity and status were incredibly significant. Despite Matthew keeping a low profile and living in an ordinary apartm building, there were always special forces secretly protecting the area.
Fiona acted recklessly and was obviously seen as a dangerous target.
She clutched Walter’s arm, gently nudging him aside as she moved forward. The red dot relocated from Fiona’s forehead to Shakira’s face. Almost instantly, Fiona crouched down with tears streaming and hid behind Shakira.
Walter furrowed his brows intensely. Without a moment’s hesitation, he positioned himself in front of Shakira, and said in a voice heavy with anger, “Shakira, don’t do anything reckless.”
“I’m not being reckless” Shakira’s eyes drifted past him, focusing on the view outside the window. “It’s just a misunderstanding, and we never meant to offend Matthew”
As her melodious voice rose, the red dot finally vanished. Everyone breathed a big sigh of relief, and Fiona just slumped. down weakly.
Shakira glanced at her and then met Walter’s angry gaze. She gave him a conciliatory smile. “It’s all cleared up now, and let me push you in, sir.” Clearly still annoyed, Walter used the smart panel to steer himself into the room first.
Shakira reluctantly touched her nose and followed inside. The study was much more spacious than the outside, and in the Center was a long ebony desk with incense burning on it. Its smoke spiraled in the air.
There was also a small balcony connected to the outdoors, where Matthew, dressed simply, was sitting under a sunshade sipping coffee. When he saw them coming in, he gave them a cold look.
Once again, hit by the silent criticism, Shakira obediently hung her head, looking guilty. Walter spoke, “Hi, Matthew
Matthew huffed. “It’s just a check–up, and you cause such a commotion. You are truly Mr. Lopez in action. The words dripped with sarcasm.
Walter understood that Matthew disliked being disturbed. Since he needed something from him, so he accepted the criticism with composure. Matthew indicated to him. “Come over here, and let me check your pulse first
“Thank you, Matthew,” Walter responded as instructed, wheeling his chair to face Matthew, and placing his hand on the
table.
Matthew took off his reading glasses, and his cloudy eyes seemed to become much clearer. He placed two fingers on Walter’s Jeft wrist and stayed silent for a moment.
After checking his pulse for a while, he glanced over at Shakira and then went to examine Walter’s right hand. Matthew accidentally furrowed his brows.
After a long thine, Matthew withdrew his hand and calmly poured himself more coffee. “You may go.”

Walter and Shakira were both surprised. I don’t understand your intention. Matthew. Please enlighten me
Matthew brought his coffee cup to his lips, gently blowing on the steam. He said frankly, “I can’t cure your illness.
“What?” Shakira rushed over to Matthew before Walter could speak. “How can it be incurable?”
Matthew gave her a stern look. “Young lady, do you think, at my age. I’d joke about this? His legs have been through herbal baths and acupuncture, and his veins are mostly healed. Normally, he should be able to start rehab by now, but yet he still can’t move. What does that tell you?”
Hearing this, Shakira was stunned. Matthew shook his head and gave a long look at Walter’s indifferent expression. “His legs won’t heal, not just because of physical injuries, but also because of a mental barrier. He doesn’t want to walk yet. No one can cure him unless he wants to
A mental barrier? Shakira instinctively looked back at Walter, only to see him already turning to leave. “I apologize for the disturbance today. I’ll take my leave.”
“Hey, wait up.” Shakira had no choice but to quickly chase after him.
Seeing them come out so quickly, Fiona was still puzzled. Is he cured already?”
Walter casually tossed out. “Matthew can’t heal me, so from now on, you don’t need to keep searching for someone to fix my legs Before Fiona could react, Walter had already left.
Shakira jogged to catch up, while Fiona watched them, suddenly realizing it. “Even Matthew can’t cure him?”
“How could that be possible? Is there any illness that Matthew can’t heal?” Yvette thought, ‘If even Matthew couldn’t help Walter, for what are all my efforts, working hard for an old man nearing his end? Isn’t that a big joke?”
Shakira never expected Walter’s wheelchair to be that fast. By the time she got outside, he was already in the Maybach. As she was about to get in, Brian stopped her. “Ms. Nelson, Mr. Lopez is going back to the office. The car behind will take you back to Eastlake Valley Estate
Shakira said, “But I still have some questions…”
“Ms. Nelson, this is Mr. Lopez‘ order, and no one is allowed to disobey him,” Brian warned softly.
Shakira had no choice but to take a few steps back. As she watched the Maybach drive away, her mind was in a mess, struggling to understand the situation.
