Chapter 219
As the Ferris wheel completed its gotation and descended, the pair disembarked with the help of the friendly staff. This time, Walter nodded at them and said, “Thank you.” Shakira looked at him and smiled.
At the exit, there was a ten–foot–long photo wall where the staff handed them a picture taken during their ride. “You can sign this and leave it on the photo wall as a keepsake!”
The couple next to them laughed, saying, “It’s a tradition here for couples to have their photos taken on the Ferris wheel and sign it for good luck. They say couples who sign their picture together won’t break up–supposedly, it’s quite effective!” Thinking that Walter’s status might make it inappropriate for him to leave a signature, Shakira was about to decline, but he was faster, asking. “Do you have a pen?” “Yes, of course, the staff member answered politely, handing him a pen.
Shakira was surprised. She leaned close and whispered, “Are you really going to sign it?” Walter whispered back, “Why not?” “Well, won’t that make you recognizable?” Shakira chose her words carefully, but Walter understood what she meant. Indeed, if someone were to recognize both his photo and signature, it could cause a world of trouble.
After a moment of consideration, Walter suddenly raised his hand and wrote across her face in the photo. Shakira peered closely and confirmed that he did indeed write her name. Then, Walter handed her the pen, saying, “This should work.”
Shakira chuckled, quickly adding his name to the photo, completing the signatures in one fluid motion. They both placed the photo on the wall.
Shakira couldn’t help but tease him, “Who would have thought the mighty Mr. Lopez would believe in a love legend about not breaking up?”
Walter let her laugh at him without arguing back.
Sean was stuck in line surrounded by couples for almost an hour before Xanthe finally arrived. He couldn’t help but grumble, “You could’ve taken your time even more.”
Xanthe didn’t let him off easily, retorting, ‘Oh, no problem. I’ll head home and come back later.”
Sean quickly surrendered. “My bad, my bad! Really, you came super quickly!”
Seeing Sean apologize so earnestly, Xanthe reluctantly forgave him and decided against heading home. Their back–and- forth drew amused smiles from the other couples around them
A guy in front turned to Sean and gave some advice like an experienced buddy. “Bro, next time you feel like complaining. just keep it to yourself. You’ll avoid 80% of arguments that way.”
Sean clasped his hands in thanks. “Lesson learned!”
Xanthe noticed his pale face from the cold, lips almost white, and couldn’t help but admire his determination for Shakira. If she hadn’t already committed to another beloved couple, she might have helped him out! What a pity!
Xanthe glanced up at the Ferris wheel, too far away to make out the silhouettes of anyone inside due to the glare on the glass. “You’re sure you saw them go up there?”
“Definitely,” Sean replied, eyes shining with determination. “Once we’ve had our turn, we’ll check the photos at the exit- that’s where we’ll find them!” Today, he was definitely going to catch that sneaky guy!
Xanthe gulped nervously. “What if you were mistaken? Maybe we don’t have to ride–it’s so high.”
Sean gave her a disdainful look, asking, “What, are you afraid of heights” “No, I’m just worried you might be scared up there, Xanthe replied,

Sean tilted his chin, prond and defiant. “Next time you come to my office, I’ll show you what real height looks like.”
“Oh.” Xanthe wasn’t interested in his office–her thoughts were preoccupied with preventing Sean from finding them.
Half an hour later, Xanthe sat stiffly in her seat, watching the main beside her, clinging to her arm like an octopus. “Didn’t you say your office was way taller than this?” she asked.
‘Look at him–shivering like a frightened little creature, Xanthe thought.
Sean straightened his back, but every time he moved, the glass capsule swayed slightly. Realizing they were essentially suspended from thin cables, he clung to Xanthe even tighter..
He yelled, “No one told me it would shake so much!” Xanthe gave him a scornful look, thinking he was just making a fuss about nothing. “Haven’t you been on a Ferris wheel with a girlfriend before?” she asked.
Sean was even more irritated. “Smart people don’t fall in love! I’m as smart as they come!” he declared.
“Alright then, Xanthe replied. Wise wasn’t the word to describe him; he was more like a monkey at a circus.
Seeing him shake with fear, Xanthe couldn’t help but feel a bit sympathetic. His first love hadn’t even started, and here she was, about to end it before it even began.
As they reached the top, Sean felt the swaying worsen, clinging to Xanthe with all his might. He turned to Xanthe, frustrated. “For someone who looks like a guy, you sure are light. If you weighed more, this thing wouldn’t sway so much
Xanthe glared at him, unimpressed. This idiot still dreamed of a first love? She’s got to give him a hard pinch!
When the ride ended, Sean felt as if half his life had drained away. With one final burst of energy, he grabbed Xanthe and went straight to the photo wall.
