Chapter 58
He used to think just like his parents and grandparents.
He believed Shakira was always targeting Yvette, bullying her, and being too aggressive.
She took advantage of the mix-up to do whatever she wanted after coming back, thinking the whole family owed her.
But now, he was starting to have doubts.
‘Shakira seemed like she hadn’t really done anything wrong?’ thought he.
Mitchell didn’t know why he was thinking this. After the plagiarism incident, he developed more empathy and started feeling sorry for Shakira.
He looked at things from outside his family’s perspective. Clearly, Shakira hadn’t done anything to provoke anyone.
Yet, just because Yvette mentioned her ‘innocently,’ Shakira suddenly became the target of everyone’s anger.
Hadn’t this happened before?
Shakira had suffered unjustly, and people’s opinions of her had soured. So every time something went wrong, they’d instinctively blame Shakira.
But not every bad thing was Shakira’s fault.
It almost seemed like Yvette was intentionally doing this, stepping on Shakira to win sympathy and attention from the family, creating a biased view against her.
Mitchell frowned, looking at Yvette, who was smiling and massaging their grandmother’s shoulders.
His beloved little sister, whom he had cherished and protected for years, suddenly seemed unfamiliar.
The Maybach glided smoothly down the road.
In the back seat, Shakira sat upright, her hands neatly resting on her knees, her posture straight, eyes fixed ahead.
Walter glanced at her before turning his gaze out the window.
After a while, when they looked back, Shakira was still in the same position.
Walter snorted disdainfully and said, “You think flattering me and pretending to be nice will make me forgive you?”
Shakira didn’t say a word; she just sat there like a statue.
Walter’s patience was gone, and he warned sharply. “Shakira!”
The car was filled with an intense, icy atmosphere.
Brian, in the front passenger seat, wanted to suggest Shakira apologize, but when he turned around, he was shocked. “Mr. Lopez, Ms. Nelson…”
“What, are you going to plead for her too?”
“No, Ms. Nelson seems to be drunk.”

Chapter 58
‘Drunk?’ Walter frowned and reached out to grab her arm.
Her skin was smooth and warm, like fine silk, and he could feel her warmth even through his fingers.
Walter was momentarily distracted.

That night, when he was hit by a sudden illness, he woke up to find Shakira curled up in his arms, sleeping peacefully.
Her body was burning with heat, absorbing his warmth. Her skin was so soft and warm.
Walter’s expression darkened. He pulled her easily into his arms, and she slumped against him, almost lifeless.
Shakira’s eyes were glazed, her cheeks flushed.
Walter sneered. “With your low alcohol tolerance, how dare you drink so much!”
Shakira suddenly reacted like a cat that had its tail stepped on. “I’m not drunk! I can drink more!”
Walter pushed her hand back down firmly, gritting his teeth. “Not only did you pass out after one drink, but you also have terrible drinking habits!”
He showed no mercy, holding her hand tightly to keep her from moving.
He seemed to feel something and flipped her palm over to check.
Her hand was covered in calluses, clearly showing signs of wear over time.

Shakira tried to pull her hand back, but Walter noticed redness on the back of her hand, squinting his eyes and pressing her hand down again.
Stuck and unable to move, Shakira leaned in. “What are you looking at?”
Walter pressed on the back of her hand, causing her to yelp. “Ouch!”.
Walter eased up and gently rubbed her injured hand.
He continued to speak coldly, “Serves you right. Instead of staying at the villa, you were out wandering around.”
Shakira pouted, looking a bit upset. “Someone asked me to come and help them; that’s why I went out…”
“Even so, it’s your fault. If it weren’t for Kyle, you’d be in real trouble.”
She pouted even more, her face a rosy pink, looking like soft dough in his hands, completely pliable.
Walter couldn’t resist and started pinching her here and there.
He had always wanted to strangle this sassy woman who talked back to him every day.
Now, though, strangling her seemed too lenient. Pinching her every day was much more entertaining.
Brian and the driver, seeing the scene in the rearview mirror, quickly looked away. They thought, ‘Probably only Ms. Nelson could make the Mr. Lopez act like this!’
Shakira winced in pain and tried to fight back, but Walter had her firmly in his grasp.
In frustration, she suddenly bit down hard on Walter’s neck.
The driver slammed on the brakes, and Brian was shocked. “Mr. Lopez!”

Walter hissed. “Keep driving, It’s fine.”
He patted Shakira on the head, then slid his hand down her hair to grip the back of her neck.
His palm rubbed gently as he spoke in a low, threatening voice, “Bite me again, and I’ll break your neck.”
“Mmm, mmm!” Even in her drunken state, Shakira had enough sense to protest a bit before finally letting go.

She sat up, her eyes dazed, and saw the bite mark on Walter’s neck. She immediately felt guilty. “You started it by pinching
me!”
Walter ignored her and checked his neck with his phone’s camera.
Seeing what he was doing, Shakira quickly moved in to try again.
This time, she didn’t bite him again. Instead, she pressed her lips against the bite marks. Gently, she puckered her lips and blew on them.
A tingling sensation shot through Walter’s whole body. He shivered and his voice turned hoarse. “Shakira, what are you doing?”
“I’m sorry, don’t strangle me. I’ll blow on it for you. My grandma used to say that blowing on a hurt spot helps it heal faster.”
She continued to blow on it.
Walter tensed up all over..
Her sweet osmanthus scent, the heat from her body pressing against him as she squirmed, and…
He hated being touched by others, but Shakira kept pushing his boundaries and breaking his rules.
Walter grabbed her chin and lifted her face to his.
Seeing her dazed, tipsy look, he asked hoarsely, “Shakira, what’s your real goal here?”
Shakira tilted her head slightly. “I’m here to heal you.”
“Why?”
“Well, since I slept with you, I have to make it up to you.”
“Pfft!”
The two people in the front couldn’t hold their laughter anymore. Before Walter’s menacing glare could reach them, they quickly put up the partition.
Now, the vibe in the back seat felt even more tense and sticky.
