Chapter 68

Mitchell only found out at the company that Finn was out making deals, so he had no choice but to go home and wait.
At dinner time, the Nelson family sat around the table. Mitchell was still looking for a chance to talk to Finn, but before the meal started, Cody brought up the matter of the Southville Project.
“This project requires our utmost attention. The developinent of Southville is related to the planning of Crescentville for the next twenty to thirty years. As long as we secure this project, we can get back on track with the business projects we’ve lost money on before!” said Cody.
Finn nodded and said, “The bid is already in the works, and with Mr. Smith’s connections, our chances of success are good.”
Rebecca smiled and praised, “This is all thanks to Yvette. If it weren’t for her efforts to secure this deal with Mr. Smith, things might not have gone so smoothly.”
Yvette waved her hand, full of modesty and respect. “It’s all thanks to Dad and big brother, I didn’t really do much.”
Rebecca held her hand and said, “You’re such a silly girl, without you, how could our family have made it in time for the bidding?”
Selena nodded with satisfaction. “Yvette was warm-hearted, always thinking of our family when there’s something beneficial.”
Even Cody said, “Once we win the bid, Dad will grant you a wish, what do you want, Yvette?”
Being praised by the Nelsons, Yvette felt being immensed with satisfaction and vanity. She had even thought about the gift she wanted to ask for from Cody once everything was settled.
Mitchell, who had not been part of the conversation, suddenly interjected in such a warm and harmonious atmosphere. “Dad, big brother, we can’t participate in this project.”
It was as if a basin of cold ice had been thrown into a furnace, causing a huge reaction from everyone.
The red glow on Yvette’s face gradually faded, and her gaze towards Mitchell carried a hint of annoyance. “Mitchell, why are you saying this out of the blue?” The doting Selena was the first to inquire gently.
Mitchell was just stubborn and repeated, “Anyway, we can’t get involved in this project, because something bad will happen it we do this.”
As soon as he said this, everyone’s feeling at the table changed.
Finn, knowing his brother’s character well, asked, “Mitchell, have you heard about something?”
Cody pondered for a moment and said calmly, “Everyone is paying attention to this profitable project, it’s normal to have some gossip.” Mitchell’s objections were not taken into consideration.
Mitchell didn’t expect things to be like this. But somehow, thinking of the look on Shakira’s face when she told him about this, and the sneaky things Lago had done before, he chose to trust Shakira!
For the sake of the company,’ thought he. Taking a deep breath, Mitchell said, “It was Shakira who told me this. She asked me to pass on to Finn that we shouldn’t join in this project. If we did, everything is ruined. She also said it’s none of her business and all depends on Finn.”
When that last sentence came out, the whole family’s attitude changed dramatically.

Chapter 68
How harsh and unlucky it sounds!

“Nonsense!” Cody had refrained from anger out of respect for his son. But after learning that Shakira was the one causing trouble, he became furious.
Finn was upset and said, “Mitchell, it is too hasty for you to against this project just based on the words of Shakira.”
Mitchell explained urgently, “No, she was very certain when she said it, I could say that what she said is true!”
Cody was very disappointed at Mitchell. “How foolish can you be to listen to the words of that madwoman?”
Rebecca couldn’t help but speak up, “Mitchell, do you know that you’re hurting Yvette’s feelings when you say things like this?”
Mitchell paused and looked at Yvette. And sure enough, she was biting her lower lip, and there’s already tears in her eyes.
Clearly, she felt wronged but didn’t say anything.
This kind of attitude made the Nelson family even more sympathetic to her. Similarly, there was more resentment towards Shakira.
“That wretched girl can’t leave us in peace even after she’s gone, causing chaos in our family. Now that we’re finally seeing a glimmer of hope, she’s back to causing trouble, that curse!” Selena was furious and said, “Even Mitchell has been deceived by her. What on earth did we owe her in our past life that we have to be haunted by her in this one!”
“Grandma, it’s not that Shakira deceived me, it’s really…” replied Mitchell.
Cody was furious and said, “This project is profitable, and who wouldn’t want to join in? What’s Shakira’s reason for preventing us from getting involved?”
“I… she didn’t say that,” replied Mitchell.
“You’re going to give me a heart attack!” Cody couldn’t even look at him.
Finn calmed down and pondered for a long time. “Could it be that Mr. Lopezopez has heard some news?”
Mitchell’s eyes lit up. “Yes, yes, that might be the truth!”
“What? it’s clearly a baseless rumor, nonsense!” Cody snorted coldly, but Finn’s words somewhat swayed him, “Finn, check it out when you’re free and keep up with Mr. Smith to avoid any potential mistakes.”
Finn agreed and said, “Okay.”
Rebecca quickly smoothed things over, “The food is getting cold let’s start to eat.” She served Yvette some food and said, “Yvette, don’t take it for real, Mitchell didn’t mean anything else.”
“Yes, I know, Mom. When it comes to business matters, my brothers are the professionals.” She seemed unaffected, rubbed the corners of her eyes, and continued to eat.
These days, everyone at Eastlake Valley Estate was on edge. Because the time for Walter’s illness to strike was drawing nearer.
After the last power outage incident, Benji, who was usually easygoing and approachable, had thrown a fit, and no one dared
to be careless this time.
The first thing Shakira did every day when she came back was to feel Walter’s pulse, which was indeed much more restless than it had been in the first half of the month. Even Fiona kept running over, claiming to be worried about Walter.

Chapter 68
Before long, it was a late weekend night. As soon as Shakira lay down, she heard the sound of people running outside. What did they do at this time?’ She suddenly thought of something and threw on her coat and ran to Walter’s room immediately.
Pushing the door open and seeing Levi and Brian in the room, Shakira’s face changed slightly.
“Walter!” The tall man was curled up on the bed, and his face was pale. Cold sweat was seeping from his forehead as he was trying his best to endure the pain.
Hearing Shakira’s voice, Walter opened his eyes slightly. And his already furrowed brows furrowed even more when seeing Shakira’s loose and sloppy collar because of her rushing over.
But before he could speak, the pain he felt was even more intense. He bit his lip so hard that he couldn’t let out any sound.
Shakira took out the needles. But before she could use them on him, Fiona knocked her aside from behind.
“The painkiller is here!” Caught off guard, Shakira hit the bedside table and watched as Fiona ordered the doctor to inject the medication into Walter’s body.
“Alright, after the painkiller, Walter’s pain will soon be stopped.”
She then turned to mock Shakira who was sitting on the ground holding her bag of needles. “You should know your place. Walter doesn’t need that junk!”
Shakira didn’t say a word, got up, and stood behind. She planned to go back to sleep once Walter was better.
However, ten minutes passed, and there’s no sign relaxation on Walter’s face. Instead, he began to shiver from the pain.
Levi was almost in tears. “Why is Mr. Lopezopez still in pain?”
Fiona turned to the doctor and questioned, “What’s going on? Didn’t you get the wrong medicine, did you?”
The doctor was startled. “The medicine is definitely fine, we have no idea why it’s not working for Mr. Lopezopez this time!” Shakira took a deep breath and said, “Step aside, let me handle this.”
