Chapter 186
Gordon and Sophia glared at Cecilia resentfully. “Dream on. We won’t kneel again.”
If it were not for acting pathetic in front of the reporters, they would never have knelt before an ungrateful child like her.
“Then don’t leave,” Cecilia retorted placidly.
She was not the one who was going to feed the mosquitoes all night, nor was she the one facing liquidation of her assets.
“If they’re willing to stay here, they are free to,” she thought grimly.
Cecilia addressed the bodyguards, “Keep an eye on them. Don’t let so much as a fly out without my order!”
“Yes, Ms. Yancey.”
As soon as their sonorous response sounded, brisk, orderly footsteps came from Emerald Mansion.
All of them turned around and looked over.
A group of bodyguards and servants had appeared, each carrying a bag.
The bags were bulging, and it was obvious that the contents were angular and heavy.
The butler marched up to Cecilia. “Mr. Christopher Forte is going to pave the
way for Mr. Yancey and Mrs. Yancey so they could kneel with more sincerity, Ms. Yancey,” he explained.
As soon as he spoke, a bodyguard stepped forward and emptied the bag. of small stones in front of Gordon and Sophia.
The stones spilled everywhere. Some of them struck Sophia on her feet. Being barefoot. she screamed in pain when her big toe bled from the impact.
“Ah! What are you doing?”
The butler stepped forward. “Paving the way for you,” he replied with a smile. “Though there are not many stones in Emerald Mansion, there is more than enough to pave a road this wide.”
Amid the incessant rattle of tumbling stones, the path grew over 32 feet in the blink of an eye.
Sophia’s bloody face trembled. Her gaze fell upon Cecilia.

“You are vicious!” cursed Sophia.
“It’s me, not Ceci.”
Christopher’s cold voice preceded his arrival.
“Of course, you are too!”
In terms of malice, the Yancey family was second to none.
It was said that even wild beasts look after their young, yet they were willing to tear Cecilia apart.
Upon arriving beside Cecilia, he addressed Gordon and Sophia, “Are you going to kneel on your own accord, or shall I have the bodyguards make you?”
Gordon’s expression darkened. A look of fear appeared in his eyes.
“Watch yourself, Christopher!” he shouted.
“Compared with what you did to her, what I’m doing is nothing. Ceci is one of mine. If anyone tries to hurt her, I will pay it back tenfold!”
Then, Christopher raised his right hand and made a gesture to the bodyguards.
The ones closest to Gordon and Sophia immediately stepped forward, twisted their right arms behind them mercilessly, and forced them to kneel on the stones.
It was summer, and their clothing was so thin that they did nothing to protect them against the sharp edges of the stones. Their knees stung. Sophia screamed in pain. “You are so cruel to us, Cecilia!” she shouted. “God will punish you!”
Cecilia sneered. “God didn’t punish you when you were cruel to me. What am I afraid of?”
Then, she turned her gaze to the paved stone road. “Good luck.”
Feeling that Gordon and Sophia were grumbling too much, Christopher had the bodyguards gag them.
Even if they wished to voluntarily walk the rest of the way on their knees, they could not even express it at this point.
The distance of 32 feet was a fair one. Under normal circumstances, it could be completed in 20 minutes.
However, as Gordon and his wife were kneeling on jagged stones, they moved at a much slower pace,

Under the street lamps, their silhouettes were disappearing slowly from sight.
Cecilia turned her gaze away and onto the reporters who were beaten up by the bodyguards.
They were so frightened they abandoned their cameras and left on the stone–paved road.
By the time the last of the reporters had crawled away, Cecilia saw that the tops of the stones were crimson with blood.
She knew that the stones were to be used to build a greenhouse. Now that they were tainted, she could no longer use them.
“Get rid of these stones afterward,” she ordered.
“Yes, Ms. Yancey,” the butler replied quickly.
Christopher gazed at the troupe of people who had crawled far away. “Do you still want to watch?” he asked Cecilia.
“No. There’s nothing to see.”
“Get in the car. Let’s go home.”
Even though the Yancey family did not like Cecilia, he cared about her. They threw her out of the house, so he gave her a home.
Cecilia’s heart skipped a beat. She glanced at Christopher.
The man’s inscrutable features became increasingly charming in the night, with obvious affection hidden in his slightly lowered eyes.
As she had long been used to the attitude of the Yancey family toward her, it did not bother her.
But when she met Christopher’s gaze, she suddenly felt a little indignant. She had never done anything wrong, yet the Yancey family had persecuted her like mad dogs, as though she had offended all of them. Cecilia did not get in the car. Instead, she stretched out her arms toward Christopher. “Carry me home.”
Sweeping Cecilia up in his arms, Christopher strode toward the main building.
When the bodyguards witnessed that scene, Cecilia’s status in their eyes. was raised yet again.
“Mr. Christopher Forte is so obedient and obliging to Ms. Yancey that he places her above himself!” they thought.

From the gate to the main building was a distance of almost 1,000 feet.
Christopher took every step steadily, and it made Cecilia feel safe and
secure.
After crossing the threshold into the living room, he asked Cecilia in his arms, “Shall we sit in the living room for a while or go upstairs to retire for the night?”
Cecilia gazed at the couch. “The night is still young. Let’s sit for a while.”
When Christopher put her on the couch, she draped her arm around his neck, pulled him close, and kissed him on the lips.
Her lips were soft, as tender and attractive as his feelings for her.
After letting Cecilia kiss him for a while, Christopher looked up and met her gaze.
