Chapter 209
The look on Cecilia’s face rapidly transformed once she heard the news that Christopher had been sent to the emergency
room.
Her hand holding the phone trembled slightly, and she asked softly, “Is it serious? Is your life in danger?”
“I’m unaware of the details as I’ve just been sent to the emergency room. I will require the signature of a relative if surgery has to be carried out. Thus, I hope you can make it to the hospital.”
“Okay. I’ll be right there.”
Cecilia hung up the phone and departed.
However, she recalled that she had not addressed Elaine after taking a step and turned to her. “Grandma Elaine, don’t worry. I won’t let Chris get hurt. You should go to bed early and not wait for me.”
Elaine had initially thought of following Cecilia to the hospital. Nonetheless, she abandoned the idea when she considered she would not help much and might even distract Cecilia as she needed to be cared for.
“Ceci, it’s going to be all right. The doctors in the military hospital are quite skilled. Don’t worry about me and go on. Stay safe.”
“Okay. Good night, Grandma Elaine.”
Elaine remembered something and called out to Cecilia, “Ceci, there are some fine herbs in the storehouse that can maintain one’s life. Take them along with you if necessary.”
It was better to be prepared for the worst even though Christopher’s condition still had not reached such dire straits.

Cecilia nodded. “Okay.”
She then swiftly left Elaine’s bedroom and returned to her own before heading to the storeroom to collect a premium tonic and some detoxifying herbs. The security personnel of the Shaw residence were then tasked to send her to the military hospital. Cecilia had been level–headed and methodical while packing all the necessities and was not panicked because Christopher was in the emergency room.
She did not want to give the mastermind a chance to take advantage of the situation.
“Head back. I will stay in the hospital tonight,” she instructed the security personnel, who acted as her driver, upon reaching the hospital.
She strode straight into the hospital lobby and entered the elevator to the emergency room without waiting for a response. Cecilia’s heart was in her throat as she gazed at the ascending numbers displayed in the elevator.
On the way to the hospital, she had gone through the toxicology report, which indicated that it was a synthetic blend of two poisons and would be difficult to detox without determining its
ratio.
The sound of the elevator door opening interrupted her thoughts. She stalked out of it, reaching the entrance of the emergency room.
The surgery was clearly still ongoing as the light above the
entrance was on.
A nurse approached her at once to hand her a set of surgical documents that required her signature.
“Ms. Yancey, you were previously asked to consent to the surgical agreement orally due to how pressing the situation was.
Now please cim

Cecilia reached for the pen and left her name in the signature column.
“Why was Christopher sent to the emergency room?” she asked.
The nurse was not in on the details as she was only a surgical assistant,
She replied uncertainly, “It seems like the lesions in his liver had given rise to abdominal infection and a series of complications. It’d be best if you could refer to the attending doctor regarding the specifics, Ms. Yancey.”
“Right. Understood. Thank you.”
A thought occurred to the nurse just as she was about to leave. “Ms. Yancey, I heard from my colleague that Mr. Forte’s phone has been ringing for some time now. Therefore, it might be urgent. You can return the call on his behalf if you don’t mind.” “Sure, Thanks.”
Cecilia eyed the emergency room as she turned to make her way to the intensive care floor, which was one floor below.
“Could you please hand me Christopher’s phone from the sterile ward?” Cecilia inquired upon reaching the station of the nurses on duty,
“A moment, please,” one of the nurses agreed immediately. Christopher’s phone was promptly handed over to Cecilia. However, there were too many incoming calls that the phone had shut down since its battery was already flat.
She asked, “Could you help me charge this phone for a
moment?”
Most modern phones supported fast charging and only needed to be charged briefly.
The nurse nodded and did so with the backup charger from her
station.
After charging for about five minutes, Cecilia removed the phone and returned to the emergency room.
The light was still on, meaning Christopher was still inside,
She turned on his phone and saw plenty of unread messages and missed calls.
The person who called Christopher the most was Solomon, his assistant. Something must have happened to the company.
It must have been important. Otherwise, he would not have been looking for Christopher so desperately.
Cecilia was about to return the call when Solomon called once
more.
She answered immediately, “It’s me. Christopher can’t pick up the phone right now.”
Solomon’s heart fell once he heard her voice.
“Ms. Yancey, how is Mr. Forte?”
The entirety of Quilton had been alarmed by the serial car chase that had taken place on the freeway.
Everyone knew that Forte Group was the dominant enterprise in Quilton.
Hence, many had their eyes on the juicy piece of meat, which was Forte Group, with what happened to Christopher.
At the same time, Forte Group had descended into internal turmoil.
While Solomon did his best to reassure the staff, rumors were brewing since Christopher still had not shown up.
Forte Group’s share was also affected by it and dropped several points.
The shareholders had also become restless under the influence
