Sophia guided me away from the interview set, her hand steady on my arm. I was relieved Gabriel didn’t follow. It would have only worsened things, especially now that all eyes had been on us.

In the driver’s seat of the Porsche, my hands still trembled on the steering wheel. The familiar hurn of the engine did little to calm my nerves. After a few minutes, Sophia broke the silence.

“Do you want me to drive instead?” she offered gently.

I glanced at her before shaking my head. The Porsche was a gift from Grayson, and as much as possible. I didn’t want anyone else driving it. Reluctantly, I pulled over to the shoulder of the road.

“I’m such an idiot,” I muttered, pressing my forehead against the steering wheel. “I let my annoyance take over my composure when I saw Gabriel. Now I’ve embarrassed myself in front of everyone.”

Sophia leaned toward me, her tone reassuring. “You have nothing to worry about. Actually, it might be time to go públic with your relationship. You’re no longer tied to the company, and you’ve managed to avoid Sabrina’s ridiculous accusations.”

Her words caught my attention. “What accusations?”

She explained how Sabrina had painted herself as the victim, implying I was the other woman.

“I’m not sure if she squeezed out any tears, but her makeup was definitely done to look like she was devastated.” Sophia said. rolling her eyes. “Who knows if she’s even in the hospital like she claimed.”

“It’s pathetic, really.” I muttered. “Earlier, I’ve revealed that Gabriel treated me like a doormat for five years.”

“Exactly! And her fans know she’s only been with him for two,” Sophia shot back.

Before I could respond, I caught movement in my side mirror–a truck swerving wildly between lanes and speeding toward us. Before I could thoroughly think, my hands moved on instinct. I turned the wheel sharply, and the Porsche swerved just

in time.

The truck’s steel bumper missed us by mere inches.

“Ahhh!” Sophia let out a terrified scream. If I had reacted a second later, we would have been smashed against the guardrail

The truck sped through the crossing and slammed into a vehicle coming from the side.

“Shit!” Sophia screamed, her eyes wide in horror as the car at the edge of the intersection crumpled under the impact.

“Call 911!” I shouted urgently.

Sophia didn’t hesitate, fumbling for her phone. Within moments, the sirens wail pierced the air as emergency responders and police patrols raced toward the scene.

We recounted the events to the investigator, detailing everything we had witnessed, especially since we had narrowly avoided becoming part of the wreckage ourselves.

At first I thought it was just a tragic accident. But I never imagined it was the first strike in an attempt on my life.
