Chapter 3512
Darryl stayed silent for a while before he said, "I've been researching ancient texts and had heard that the Holy Jade Scripture contains deep and profound knowledge. So, I wanted to see it for myself." He wished he did not have to answer her question but could not bear to disappoint her once he took one look at her face.
Madame Pandora furrowed her eyebrows. "I heard that the words written on it are extraordinary, but that not everyone can read it."
"I can read it!" Darryl said with a smile.
Madame Pandora was shocked by that revelation. ‘He can read the words in the Holy Jade Scripture? How many more secrets does he hold about himself?'
"Well, we have rested long enough. Shall we make a move?" Darryl asked after looking outside the tent. He wanted to go back to the capital as soon as possible.
Madame Pandora bit her lip in hesitation. "It's too dark outside. Why don't we stay here for the night and make a move in the morning?" She quickly poured wine into his glass.
There was no way she was going back there, she had already decided to make him drunk and quietly sneak away with her family once he was asleep.
Darryl scratched his head. He did not know whether to laugh or cry. He could not bear to rush her, for he could see the tiredness in her eyes. However, he did not know that she was pretending to be tired. 2
They drank a few more glasses of wine and then turned in separately for the night. They made sure their tents were as far as possible to avoid her servants creating gossip about them.
However, once he was back in his own tent, he began to feel as if something was off about the whole thing. There were many other ways to seek revenge on Madame Pandora if the families she had wronged had wanted to do so. Why would they pin the crime of stealing the Holy Jade Scripture onto her? Then there was the fact that only Yalena and the 12 paladins were on the scene when he discovered the Thousand Variations Box to be empty, so none of the other people in the Temple of Lights knew that the Holy Jade Scripture was missing.
There was no way the news could have reached the other families so fast. That left him with the most plausible explanation— Madame Pandora had lied to him! He wanted to question her immediately, but his body was uncooperative from all the wine he had drunk, oh well, he could always wait until the morning to interrogate her, and with that thought, he fell asleep immediately. 2
In her own tent, Madame Pandora was staring at the night sky in a trance-like state. The wine had colored her cheek, making her even more attractive, she was waiting for Darryl to fall asleep so that she could leave with her family.
