Chapter 4104
At Grunt's orders, the soldiers exchanged doubtful looks with each other. Yet Grunt's expression was deathly solemn, and the soldiers dared not question him further, speeding out of the canyon.
In the blink of an eye, Grunt and Darryl were the only ones left at the cave entrance.
"Darryl Darby!”
Gone was the coldness on Grunt's face, and in its place was a satisfied smirk as he turned to face Darryl. "And so what if you were right? So what if I had been putting up an act with Oliver just now? What would it matter if you saw through it? Who would believe you?
’I'll admit you're a powerful, skilled man. Great enough for even the Ancient Ancestors to change how they see you and make you the Nine Heaven Sage. You still lost to me in the end, though, didn't you?” 2
Grunt was overwhelmed with emotion toward the end of his speech, a crazed look on his face.
Darryl sighed with a pained smile on his face. "I know you detest me for what happened with Princess Dorothy, Grunt, but it was all a coincidence-'
Darryl was smart enough to know that Grunt's ambush had been because of Princess Dorothy. Darryl had no intention of explaining it, but the situation gave him no other choice.
Grunt cut him off before he could even finish his sentence.
"Shut up!"
At the mention of Princess Dorothy, Grunt's eyes grew bloodshot as he roared, "You dare bring up Princess Dorothy? Do you know I've had feelings for her for thousands of years? It took forever for her to like me back. We were about to have a breakthrough in our relationship, only for you to ruin it in the end!
"Here you are, claiming that everything that happened with the Princess was by pure coincidence. Tell me, then. Why did you steal my golden armor
at the Heavenly Alliance altar? And why didn't you reveal your identity when you gave that letter to the Princess?
"You pervert, you were there to take advantage of the Princess' virtue, weren't you?
"Didn't you have your reasons just a while back? Out with them, don't be shy."
Grunt was practically screaming toward the end of his sentence. He had gone insane, losing all control.
Darryl knew it would be useless to try to explain himself. He took a deep breath and spoke slowly. "I've said everything I needed to. It’s up to you whether you want to believe it or not.
'If you feel wronged, take me back with you. We'll settle that with His Majesty, once and for all."
Darryl had seen many things in his time in the world of cultivators. He was more than used to situations like that to fear them anymore. He knew that there was no arguing with Grunt under the given circumstances and that seeing the Nine Heaven Emperor would be the only way to appease him.
'Take you to the Emperor?"
Grunt startled at the suggestion at first before smiling slyly. "You're not fooling me. Do you take me for an idiot? His Majesty and her Majesty would all take your side. Do you think I'd even have the chance to say a word in front of them?"
Grunt was far from a fool. He saw through Darryl's intentions immediately.
Yet, Darryl remained unperturbed. "What would you want to do instead, then?"
Grunt did not want to waste his breath further. He raised his arm, the golden spear materializing in his grip. An overwhelming gust of fairy soul energy exploded from his body. Grunt stared Darryl dead in the eye, his gaze not unlike that of a poisonous snake. "You destroyed my chances with Dorothy. Did you think I would let you get away with that? I shall destroy your fairy soul and make medicine out of your flesh. Consider that revenge.’
As he spoke, Grunt strode toward Darryl, one step at a time.
The air thickened with a terrifying aura.
Darryl gulped as he felt the ferocious energy that Grunt radiated. Panic began to overtake his heart as well.
